Destined (House of Night #9) by PC and Kristen Cast

In Destined, the forces of Light and Dark collide as their epic struggle focuses on Tulsa's House of Night. Zoey is home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side and preparing to face off against Neferet. Kalona has released his hold on Rephaim, and, through Nyx's gift of a human form, he and Stevie Rae are finally able to be together if Rephaim can truly walk the path of the Goddess and stay free of his father's shadow.
But is Zoey really safe? Does she truly know those who are closest to her? And will love win when it is tested by the very soul of Darkness? Find out what s destined in the next thrilling chapter of the House of Night series.
Okay, ready for a laugh? I believe I stopped reading this series at #4, Untamed, and when given a chance to read this one, I figured, eh... why not? I've been curious as to how things have been turning out for Zoey and gang.

Oddly enough, I didn't become too lost. Of course there were things that I now really want to go back and read to find out what happened, but it wasn't too disconcerting that I couldn't finish the book. It was an easy read and I finished it rather quickly. Those that love this series will love this book. Those who are less thrilled, may not totally love this book. To me, this one was really written for the fans of the series and seemed like a "inbetween" book. Important things happen, but could have been included in the next book without a cliffie. Yep, another cliffie for this series.

What I really didn't like about this book besides the cliffie is that the gang didn't seem to have matured much since I last left them. In fact, it almost seemed like they de-evolved. Very childish but dealing with adult and supernatural issues, you think someone would get a clue. However, it didn't seem as though anyone was in a hurry to grow up despite all of the chaos around them.

I give this book 3 stars. I think it is an easy read and as I said, great for those who are a fan of the series. For those that like to keep up with what is going on, but aren't on the edge of the seat might wait for a library loan or at least until the next book comes out (although I suspect there will be another cliffie at the end of that one as well). I will say, it did make me curious enough to check out the rest of the series books that I missed.
I received this book from Zeitghost Media and no compensation for my review was given.

  1. A bit disappointing that the characters haven't really developed - I find this so frustrating and annoying.

  2. lol it's a funny choice to read this one, missing the other ones. I'm glad you weren't lost. I've never read any books of this series yet. But maybe I need to try too.

  3. I kind of thought this series had ended by now...ok I guess not. And I am not that thrilled to read it either ;) Since it was just so...ya

  4. This was a DNF for me---that last one was close to that. Instead of Maturing---I swear these kids are regressing!

  5. I think I made it to book 5 or 6 before I stopped, because, like you said, the characters didn't seem to be growing at all and that's something I need to happen in a series. The plot didn't seem to evolve that much either to the point that I didn't feel like I was missing anything by not reading further. I still really enjoyed the beginning of the series though, so maybe I'll pick it back up at some point! Thanks for the review Melissa:)

  6. I've never felt a need to add this series to my TBR. It's crazy that you can skip that many books in the series and feel like you haven't missed much. Sounds like a soap. LOL

  7. I never did read this series. It kind of just keeps going and going though. I have the first book, but I haven't picked it up. I've heard many reviews about it though, like this one. I think that's why it's remained at the bottom of my TBR. *sigh*

And, btw, your header made me giggle! I love the girl picking up the barbel getting ready to tackle the TBR! Good luck and God speed!

  8. It's the same plot over and over again! I know how you feel.

  9. This series lost me at book 2. After reading your review I'm glad I never went back. Devolved? Was that possible?

  10. @...Petty... Yep, it had been 5 books, I thought they would have grown more in relationships. *shrugs*

@Melliane... There were parts I didn't know, but didn't feel lost. I'm strange, what can I say? :D

@Blodeuedd... LOL I don't think you'd like these later ones.

@Felicia...Oh no! That doesn't sound good. I still may go back to read what I missed, but I'm now not in a hurry. :(

@Jenny... I liked the action that happened, but it really didn't seem to require a whole book for it. Hm... not liking what you said about stopping.

@Missie... I really liked the first 3 books. I think it has become a soap. :(

@Jen... I think you will like the first few (at least 3). Oh and thanks for the compliment. That is what I think I need to do to pick up my review tbr! LOL

    @Savvy... Oh no!

  12. Oh back to your old habits so soon in the new year are we? :D lol. Glad you liked it. :)

  13. You skipped #5-8 and you weren't too lost? That sounds like me tuning into Days of Our Lives after 10 years and finding that Stefano's still trying to ruin Roman and Marlena's lives.

  14. I think I quit this one after book 6 or 7. They killed the only character I still liked & I just couldn't read anymore. With that said sometimes I want to pick it up again out of curiosity. Your review assures me I did the right thing :)

    Great review!

  15. LOL, what a refreshing experiment! I read the first eight books in this series and I really don't know why. There is almost no progress and I feel like the publisher just wants to make money by publishing only short books 2 a year... I think I won't continue the story :(

  16. Thanks for the review. I have had this one since in first came out and still haven't gotten to it. Partly because it was stolen by my two girls the minute I brought it into the house, and partly because I figured there was going to be another cliffie. (*SIGH* it's like they are required these days just to get a book published)

So kinda glad I've been putting it off.

Since you said the story doesn't really get any further yet I think I will hold off at least until it is closer to when the next one will come out. I hate waiting to resolve cliffies, course the next one will probably end the same too...
