Tell Me Something Tuesday: Blog Book Tours

Tell Me Something Tuesday, a meme started by CambriaHebert, but now hosted on Rainy Day Ramblings. It is a chance to get to know your fellow bloggers by sharing fun stuff, discussions and more. Grab the question and post your answer on your blog and link up at Rainy Day Ramblings! Have fun!

This weeks question:

I want to be on the tour! What are some things that you like about being a book tour? What are things that you dislike?

What I like about a tour is that I don't have to do too much to set up the posts. Most of it is done for me and so my job is just to make sure it is done and ready when my turn comes. Also, depending on the tour, you can get a lot of good camaraderie going with the other participants in the tour. So, because of that, my fave tours are run by people I have already "met" through their blog.

Some of my fun tour hosts are:
and
(we had so much fun with the recent tour of Bronze Gods)

Oh I enjoy the bigger ones, but these are a little more cozy so they are just more fun for me. I also enjoy being a part of a tour for authors since I usually am such a fan of their work.

What I dislike... hm... haven't ran into many problems specifically with tours. The one's I've been a part of are well run and I get all my information right on time. So, no complaints. Well, maybe one. I know the addy for this blog and the title for the blog are a bit confusing, but I still think it is obvious and should be corrected when I bring it to someones attention. Even that is really not a big deal though. *shrugs* Just the only thing I could think of right now. :)

So, how about you? Do you like blog tours? Do you participate?

  1. People confuse my blogtitle and address too. Oh well my bad.

I do lie tours that take care of the most. I do not like tours that present the same post on many blogs

    1. I haven't had those, usually different posts. I've been lucky, me thinks.

  2. I don't like tours that have generic posts they send to everyone on the tour. Though I mostly choose to participate by doing a review.

  3. The Bronze Gods tour was so unique and fun, wasn't it! I don't mind blog tours when each post is different but I do agree with Felicia about the generic posts. Those get old.

  4. I adored the Bronze Gods tour! It was just so different and I think everyone had fun reading the notes sent back and forth between the characters. Candace does a fabulous job as well, as do the ladies at Kismet Book Tours and Rockstar Book Tours. Those are the people I work with the most and are always on the ball about getting me the information I need in a timely manner and generally making my stop easy to put together.

    1. I did love those notes. Candace just rocks those tours. I would have mentioned Kismet, but I don't "know" them like I do Candace and Maja.

  5. I love blog tours as well, but I usually do the ones that let the bloggers post original content, and the one thing that's hard about those: it takes more time, especially if you have to review a book. Those are the only times we'll schedule specific days for reviews, and it's a little difficult for me to stick to a strict reading schedule :D Otherwise, I enjoy them a lot!

    1. I don't have a too strict reading schedule, but strict enough. :) Don't mind as long as I have plenty of time to get everything ready.

  6. I've actually taking a step back form being on tours cause one thing I don't like is the time constraint. The book has to be read but this and this date. I like to time my time reading the book and rushed to read it by a certain date.

    1. AimeeKay has been rocking these with a due date. I would be lost without her! :)

  7. I do like blog tours. It's nice to have things ready to go (for the most part) on the day you post. It can be refreshing sometimes. It's also a nice way to read different sorts of books. I've done a few tours for TLC book tours, and they are always sweet. I've set up a few tours myself since I do book publicity and I try and follow the things that I enjoy about being contacted.

    1. Oh TLC is great as well. Always on time. I would try to do a tour myself, but Oy! So much work. I think I would become a basket case.... more than I am now... ;)

  8. I agree the smaller tours run by people I know and trust are my favorite. I am giving up on the bigger touring companies because I can never get what I want. I thought the Bronze Gods Tour was a lot of fun as well. Thanks so much for weighing in today, Melissa, sorry I didn't have the link up, I just had too much on the post today!

    1. Yes, love those smaller tours! The big one I do is MM and they are so flexible I enjoy it. Don't worry about the link. I just put mine in the comments so you knew I participated. :D

  9. Ohh, Bronze Gods WAS fun and I'm so happy you girls joined me. I'm hoping we'll get to do something for Perdition, too, but the jury's still out.

I don't do many tours either. Just small, cozy stuff for books I really believe in. I'm not a fan of empty promo posts so I avoid doing them myself.

  10. I haven't agreed to take on any huge tours, one person wanted a two month tour and I turned it down. I do have one coming that lasts only about a week but has over 30 stops, so it seems big just cause it's bunched altogether. I like it like that so far, but I suppose it's when it's running that it might be an issue. I do agree that I like the smaller tours because it gets more personal. Like Maja said, I don't care for empty promo posts so I try to make everything manageable so we have good content. :)
Thanks so much for mentioning me! I'm glad you haven't had many bad experiences!

  11. Candace is an excellent tour host. She goes the extra mile by reading the books and weeding out the crappy books. Kismet is a good tour host as well. I don't like giving dates and having to wait weeks to see if I am on the tour. Maybe there's another tour I'd like to join if I don't get picked for this one and I gave them the only dates I'm available. It's a bit frustraing.

  12. I like blog tours but I'm trying ot be more picky with which ones I participate in. I agree though, Candace is awesome to work with! I haven't done a tour with Maja, but I adore her blog and she's so lovely I'm sure it would be a blast to work with her on a tour too. My experiences have been great with tours, so I can't really complain too much. Some tours I participated in ages ago were a bit disorganized, but I don't think they're even around anymore.

  13. I really hate when the tour host/author send you the post the night before it's supposed to go up. Formatting can be a nightmare - especially if they don't include photos etc (That rarely happens though)

  14. I don't like tours that have repeat posts. If somebody is visiting every blog on the tour then to see the same excerpt 4 or 5 times is silly. I also don't like tours that tell you "hey here's your html and then you copy and paste and it's just a mess" If I have to write my own post that's fine, but don't tell me you have one all ready for me and then I have to fix it. Not cool. (it's happened twice, but with two different authors)
