Tell Me Something Tuesday: Series books

Tell Me Something Tuesday, a meme started by CambriaHebert, but now hosted on Rainy Day Ramblings. It is a chance to get to know your fellow bloggers by sharing fun stuff, discussions and more. Grab the question and post your answer on your blog and link up at Rainy Day Ramblings! Have fun!
This weeks question:
To continue or not to continue.....let's talk about series! What are some of your favorite series that you continue to read? What would cause you to not continue a series?

First, I'll talk about what it takes for me to not continue a series. Usually something I'm totally opposed. I've read a book where rape was seen as "okay" and in fact there was no reason for the rape. I just couldn't continue with a story like that and found out that the other books in the series had the same theme. Nope, once was enough for me.

My other reason for not continuing with a series is usually time. I'll get to it, but it will take time to get back into the series. Usually I hate when that happens. :)

However there are SO many I'm addicted to and to list them all would be impossible. Okay, it would be possible, but this would be one long arse post! LOL

I'll start with those I just reviewed or are coming out soon...

Yesterday I reviewed Other Oceans by Andrea Jones (adult series). Loved it and the first book in the series is:

Hook and Jill
Hook and Jill Saga #1
by Andrea Jones
An ageless fable grows up...
Wendy Darling learns. What appears to be good may prove otherwise, and what seems to be evil…is irresistible.
In this startling new vision of a cultural classic, Wendy intends to live happily ever after with Peter Pan. But Time, like this tale, behaves in a most unsettling way.
As Wendy mothers the Lost Boys in Neverland, they thrive on adventure. She struggles to keep her boys safe from the Island’s many hazards, but she finds a more subtle threat encroaching from an unexpected quarter.…The children are growing up, and only Peter knows the punishment.
Yet in the inky edges of the Island, the tales Wendy tells to the Lost Boys come true. Captain Hook is real, and even the Wonderful Boy can’t defend his Wendy against this menace. Hook is a master manipulator, devising vengeance for his maiming. Insidious and seductive, Hook has his reasons for tempting Wendy to grow up.
Revenge is only the first.
Deepening the characters so artfully sketched by J.M. Barrie, Hook & Jill reveals the dark side of innocence at which Barrie hinted in the figure of Peter Pan. It brings alive a daring Wendy who asks questions and seeks truth; it delves into the man, Hook, the iconic villain. Striding from fairy-tale and thrusting into reality, Captain Hook becomes a frightening force indeed.
The Mythos Academy is a YA series I enjoy. The novella Spartan Frost just came out and the next novel is set to come out at the end of July:

Midnight Frost
Mythos Academy #5
by Jennifer Estep
Here we go again …

Just when it seems life at Mythos Academy can’t get any more dangerous, the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at the Library of Antiquities — until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news is I’m still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone else instead.

As Nike’s Champion, everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I’m still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. I’ve got to get my hands on the antidote fast — otherwise, an innocent person will die. But the only known cure is hidden in some creepy ruins — and the Reapers are sure to be waiting for me there…
...and speaking of Jennifer Estep, I am also addicted to her Elemental Assassin series as well.

I would also like to issue a total love of UF series. Some (and I mean SOME) of these are:

...and on and on and on...
these are just a few of my faves and I apologize to those that I haven't mentioned. My brain can only handle so much goodness at a time. :)

So, are there reasons you quit a series and what series would you like to mention?

  1. I quit...yes why do I quit? Well I just feel that there are better things out there. The book ca be good, but not good enough to buy more

    1. I can see that. I often keep telling myself I'm missing something though. LOL

  2. I quite agree with you about the rape element. Any overuse and especially unnecessary gratutious use of violence or swearing will see me leaving a series.

My favourite series of late? The Philippa Gregory 'Cousin's War' series or, even if I am glad it has come to an end, The True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse' books.

    1. I still need to read a Philippa Gregory book. Oh and I'm so behind on the Sookie series. :P

  3. I really want to start the Mythos Academy series. It seems so good!

  4. There are definitely series that I can't give up, even when they have downturns (Chicagoland Vamps...which is better now!) and then there are those who I've had to give up (Anita Blake) for a variety of reasons. It's always sad when you've got to break up with a series.

    1. I haven't read to the book where a lot of people started getting turned off with Anita Blake. I think I'm still a few books behind, but I'm not sure how many. She is still chaste where I'm at... LOL

  5. Yeah, rape being seen as okay would definitely guarantee a discontinuation of the series for me. Same with cheating. We talked about this yesterday, but I just can't deal with it. I'm like zero-tolerance on cheating :) You know Mythos is one of my very favorite series as well, as is the Elemental Assassin series. And because of you I'm going to give Hook and Jill a try, can't wait!

Oh and we SO need to discuss Hook and Jill when you read it! NEEDS! :D

  6. Hmm, yeah, cheating and rape definitely put e off in a series. Another thing that puts me off is the complicated world. Like the BDB series. As much as I like it, there are too many plotlines to follow, too many characters, and many different worlds weaving together. It's interesting but very difficult to enjoy it all.

    1. I think it's because I have a long time before I dive back into the BDB series it doesn't bother me. That is another series I'm very behind on as well...

  7. I searched for the Hook and Jill series all over and it is so overpriced and unavailable unless I want to fork out 10 bucks for it on my kindle which isn't going to happen a no go at the library either. I want to try several of your UF series up there. I can't believe you forgot Darynda and Hearne on your list! Thanks for doing TMST this week!

  8. I totally added the Hook and Jill to my wishlist, sounds delightful. Have you tried the Greywalker series by Kat Richardson? It is one of my favorite UF.

  9. I have very few series that I'm loyal to these days. But Jenn Bennett's Arcadia Bell series is definitely one of them It just keeps getting better.

  10. I had one series I decided to not finish as the stories seemed to repeat, and only 3 books in. It was dragging rather bad.

I'm on the teeter on a few series, but only 1 or 2. Mostly, I want to keep reading all the book in the series's I'm reading. lol.

  11. I wouldn't even know where to start! I am such a series reader...

Here is one series that I have given up on..

    1) PC Cast series but made it to book 8 or 9

  12. I'm so bad with series!! I wish I could keep up with them better but it's difficult. I read so much it's hard to know when new books are coming out and then when I do, I can't always get to the next book in a series because I have to read something else. It's a bit easier if the series is shorter and most, if not all, the books are released.

I am almost finished with the WVMP series by Jeri Smith-Ready. One more to go and I love it!! I love Jeri and would always try and read all her books when I have time.

Harry Potter is just a classic so probably the longest series I've read (in terms of number of books in the series).

  13. Firstly, I am SO sad that there will be no more Charlie Madigan books. It breaks my heart. Secondly, onto the big thing: I tend to give up on a series when it takes a really unexpected and unwanted direction romance-wise (Sookie Stackhouse, Black Wings...), but once I'm into the characters,it really takes a lot for me to give up. I always give more chances than I really should.
