The Goddess Inheritance (Goddess Test #3) by Aimée Carter

Love or life.Henry or their child. The end of her family or the end of the world.Kate must choose.
During nine months of captivity, Kate Winters has survived a jealous goddess, a vengeful Titan and a pregnancy she never asked for. Now the Queen of the Gods wants her unborn child, and Kate can't stop her--until Cronus offers a deal.
In exchange for her loyalty and devotion, the King of the Titans will spare humanity and let Kate keep her child. Yet even if Kate agrees, he'll destroy Henry, her mother and the rest of the council. And if she refuses, Cronus will tear the world apart until every last god and mortal is dead.
With the fate of everyone she loves resting on her shoulders, Kate must do the impossible: find a way to defeat the most powerful being in existence, even if it costs her everything.
Even if it costs her eternity.
I have to admit it took me a bit to get into the book. I think it had to do more with time and the fact that I kept forgetting who was who with the god's alternate names. However, my brain slowly worked and things clicked into place and then I was off! This became a book I didn't want to put down because I wanted to know what happens next. :)

There were some parts that bugged me. Some things I cannot discuss or it will give too much away. However, I can say that I enjoyed Henry much more in this one. He was a little less taciturn, but still I wanted him to show more to Kate. However, I was glad of the Henry we did get in this one. I think it was the first time I didn't want to totally kick him in the arse. ;)

However, with Kate not trying to get Henry to open up, we were presented with a Kate that at times really got to me. Yes, she was new and had some esteem problems, but I really wanted her to rip those other gods a new one when they kept blaming her. I mean really? With all the selfishness they do on a daily basis, they were able to point fingers blameless? She was aware of this but still let them get to her. I mean it did make sense as she was still learning and had a whole new set of emotions to deal with, but I still wanted that new rip. :)

In the end I give this book 3 1/2 or 4 stars (yes, I said "or"). There were parts of this book that frustrated me, but I have to also admit, it kept my attention. I was drawn to know what was going on and what the outcome would be. The ending is complete but open just a bit to either have a novella or perhaps a offshoot book come from this (and I do believe their are those novellas out there). I wasn't totally convinced of the romance with Henry and Kate, but not unconvinced either. Still, I got my HEA and it was quite an adventure. I recommend it to those that love a YA PNR adventure.
I received this eARC from NetGalley and Harlequin Teen and no compensation for my review was given.

  1. At least there was an HEA with this one. I gave up on this series about halfway through the second book -- I just didn't click with the characters. Actually, I wanted to shake Kate and tell her to get with it -- same with Henry! But HEAs rock. So that makes it all worth it.

  2. I am unsure..maybe cos it's YA. Cos I do love Hades, I know I know, I am weird. But he is the God of the Underworld, respect

    1. I'm not sure you'd like it as much as I did b/c of the YA angle. And I guess I'm as weird as you since I like the Hades aspect as well. :D

  3. I agree completely Melissa! I really liked the Henry we got in this book, but I had some frustrations with Kate for sure. Like you, I wanted her to stand up for herself and not immediately jump to the self-sacrifice option when there were a myriad of other solutions available if she'd just talk to Henry. Still, I was riveted to every page despite my issues:)

    1. Eh... your review was more precise without being revealing (that was brilly, btw). At least we both wanted her to TALK TO HENRY! LOL

  4. I have yet to start this series, but I do own book one. I'm with you on trying to remember characters from past storylines. I think my memory took a dump after kids. I don't mind YA reads, so I'll give this series a go.

    1. It might help if you are reading them fairly close together. It was a while since the last one and I even forgot about the cliffie! LOL So, you'll probably have a better time than I!

  5. I'm a little late in this series I have to read book 2; I'm curious to see a Henry less taciturne.

  6. I honestly don't think this series is for me, but so many of my friends enjoy it. I hate it when the heroine doesn't stand up for herself, that part would probably be very frustrating for me too.
I'm glad you got your HEA, Melissa!

    1. She does stand up for herself, but there are times she doesn't and those were the times I wanted to yell. Still, it was good and I had to know what happened. LOL

  7. I am with Maja, I just don't think this series is something that would appeal to me, I know a lot of people weren't a fan of the first book, and I understand it got better, but I am not a fan of weak heronies and I know I would have issues. Glad it had a good ending for you at least.

    1. She's not really weak, but probably not as strong as you would like. Sometimes not as much as I would like. :) Still, had to know so the plot was well drawn out. :D

  8. Oh I really have to read this series! I know it's a hit or miss with a lot of people it seems but it sounds like something I would enjoy. The ending is intriguing it sounds like she wasn't sure she wanted to continue on with the series maybe? Great review, chickie!

  9. Glad that it is a HEA!
I need to still read this one, since I like the others, but I had the same issue as you, I kept forgetting their god name and got a bit confused.

  10. You know, I felt like the ending let me down. It all came together too easily. It was A HEA but not what I was expecting.

  11. I have such mixed feelings about this series. (I've read the first two) Kate & Henry irritate me most of the time yet I feel invested in their HEA.

It kind of bums me out that it's not 100% clear & convincing in the last book. I'll probably get to it but I'm in no rush.

  13. Melissa-
I'm with you on the romance, it still left me wanting even though Henry showed more feeling in this one. I just wanted to see some Henry and Kate time. A real romance between them. But guess that's not what Ms.Carter intended. I was satisfied with the finish. You do a great review without giving anything away. I could learn a few things from you :)!

  15. I've been a bit frustrated with the characters in these books, but I'm very curious to see how things work out. I'm glad that Henry is a bit different this time around but I've been hearing Kate is still frustrating. Still, I need to know what happens!
