The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden #2) by Julie Kagawa

In Allison Sekemoto's world, there is one rule left: Blood calls to blood

She has done the unthinkable: died so that she might continue to live. Cast out of Eden and separated from the boy she dared to love, Allie will follow the call of blood to save her creator, Kanin, from the psychotic vampire Sarren. But when the trail leads to Allie's birthplace in New Covington, what Allie finds there will change the world forever-and possibly end human and vampire existence.

There's a new plague on the rise, a strain of the Red Lung virus that wiped out most of humanity generations ago-and this strain is deadly to humans and vampires alike. The only hope for a cure lies in the secrets Kanin carries, if Allie can get to him in time.

Allison thought that immortality was forever. But now, with eternity itself hanging in the balance, the lines between human and monster will blur even further, and Allie must face another choice she could never have imagined having to make.
Although it took me a minute to catch back up in the story (too long between books... but then again any waiting time is sometimes too long...) but once I did I had fun with this book. This book picks up right after the first book and we find ourselves on the journey we left. As she continues on her single minded journey she runs into an old acquaintance and this alters her goal slightly. This is where I started enjoying myself the most. One word... Jackal!

Oh in the first book Jackal was a heartless bastard. In this one he's just a bastard. He made me laugh and I just loved his snark. Granted I understood why Allie wanted to remove his tongue from time to time, but I really enjoyed his snark within this book. I hope he's in the next book as much as this one... it would be sad to not have him stirring things up when they don't need to be stirred. :D

The ending you are left with a twist and a huge tease for the next book. It's not a cliffie, but you will want the next book fairly quickly. I give this book 4 stars and recommend it to Kagawa fans as well as those that like older YA.
I received this eARC from the publisher and NetGalley and no compensation for my review was given.

  1. I have the Uk cover and i love it. I just started this last night and already I'm liking Allison much more than in he first book. She's more confident and more awesome somehow. Jackal is still not around but I can't wait.

  2. I so like the cover at the top of your post, the other two I'm not at all keen on.

Also loving the idea of a psychotic vampire.

    1. The last model wasn't accurate at all... so it was a bit of a big deal. :)

  5. It took me a little while to remember some of the details from book one as well, for instance, Jackal. I couldn't remember exactly what he did, but then of course it all came flooding back and I wanted to punch him even as I was laughing at him. He was definitely a fabulous addition to this book! And that end Melissa! I may have cheated and read the end first so I knew it was coming, but still. It hurt:)

    1. I actually guessed at what happened, so it wasn't a surprise. :) Still, enjoyed it and I knew you'd love Jackal's snark. :D

  7. I am usually fuzzy on the previous book going in, seriously how do they expect me to remember after a year and a couple hundred books in between? I need to get this read, I must get back to Jackal. Everyone is buzzing about him in this one and loved how eloquently you put it "heartless bastard" to "Just a bastard". Love that!

  8. I appreciated jackal a lot more in this one too. It took me a bit to get into it, and then bam, that ending.. of doom.

  9. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, Melissa! I wasn't a fan of the first book, so I know I won't be reading this one, but I'm thrilled that this book doesn't disappoint fans. Great review! :)

  10. Yeah, it took me a minute to remember what happened and who was whom but I was sucked back in pretty quickly! Loved all the characters -- even the ones I loved to hate. Kagawa is seriously a master storyteller.

  11. The UK covers are SO much better! It annoyed me how the US one didn't even do Allie any justice.

  16. I just got the finished copy of this today and it's GORGEOUS! I'm totally in love with how it looks. Under the jacket there's a picture of Allie and it's kind of a glossy cover. I have not yet finished though!

  17. Yes she did vacillate between wanting to rip out his tongue and pat him on the back. But she was lucky to have Jackal there on several occasions. And he definitely lightened the mood. I would have never though that from The Immortal Rules. He's the vampiric version of Puck I guess though there's absolutely nothing romantic between them. Or even friendly between them. But it is funny how Zeke... well I'll have to email that to you too cause it'll be a spoiler.
