Only in Dreams
I love to sleep. Really, like a lot. No, I’m not narcoleptic. I’m a writer.
Many people might characterize sleeping too much or excessive daydreaming as a disorder. I just call it work. Because see, I’ve always been a vivid dreamer, and that’s where I get my best ideas.
Ever have a crazy dream that you couldn’t get out of your mind? Maybe something outrageous happened, like you flew or had magical powers. Maybe you unexpectedly fell in love. Or you were being chased by an evil monster. Yup, I have those dreams too. But while most people just put these dreams out of their mind upon awakening, I actually sit and think about how I can incorporate them into a storyline. And since I write paranormal romance, nothing is off limits!
BLOOD OF THE DEMON, the first book in my Demons of Infernum series, was released earlier this month by Entangled Publishing. The seed for this story first came to me in my sleep: a half-demon battling his father. It went through many incarnations before becoming the story it is today (including a total rewrite), but the image of the hero is still the same one I dreamt up.
MARK OF THE SYLPH, the second book in this series, releases in early September, and guess where I got most of my storyline from? You know it: my dreams!
Since I’m sharing, I’d love to hear yours. Come on, you know you want to tell me: What’s the craziest dream you ever had?
~~~~~~~~~~~
Rosalie Lario practiced law for five years before finally admitting to herself that negotiating contracts wasn’t nearly as fun as dreaming up stories. The first book in her Demons of Infernum series, Blood of the Demon, will be released August 2011.
Thanks for coming on the blog today! I often have such crazy dreams I don't know if I should share! People around here already see me as crazy! LOL
I bet her dreams make you want to know more about this book...right? RIGHT? Well...
Giveaway is now over!
Sleeping is very refreshing amd I used to have chain dreams - like a story in installments. Some of them were very nice and I remembered everything after waking up; what's more, during the dream I reminded myself what had happened previously! I am entering of course:
Do not even get me started, bf always wonder where my dreams come from.
ReplyDeleteLike last night I was a slave, then I got taken to the castle and saw that the dogs got better food than we did. Then I woke up and got back to the same world where some guy dragged me away to burn me at the stake. Just cos some other guy liked me and they were gonna punish him. And no one asked me what I felt. Do not worry I got away :)..ahem..should I say it here? I seduced him ;)
Good times. My mind seem to like apocalyptic dreams, danger dreams and the boring ones where I am missing the school bus.
Not en entry, I am trying to stick to my not too many ebooks before I have my reader idea
I don't know if I have vivid dreams but I have been told more than once I have very interesting conversations while sleeping. Sleeping is never over-rated though sometimes it can be highly under-rated!
I have very vivid dreams and usually I'm going through a house and the staircase gets too small or very crooked and the doors are hard to get to. Those I have frequently. I love to sleep! About to go to sleep right now!! As a night shift worker I think I never get enough sleep!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!!
Craziest dream ive ever had is really really foggy. But I do remember I was in these apartments with these rails on the outside. I was being chased by the coneheads. I was terrified lol
Sounds like a good book.
I've had the same dream twice and it kind of freaked me out. I was getting married and at the end of the ceremony my new husband and I were riding in an open air, horse drawn carriage. We're almost to wherever we're going when I get shot and killed. Then the scene rewinds to the beginning of the carriage ride and I get to go through being shot and killed again. I'm not sure why but it was the mafia that killed me. Two nights within a week this happened. Not a fun week.
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteAnachronist, that is so cool! I wish I could do that. I've had recurring dreams, but never chain dreams.
Blodeuedd, uh... wow. Your dream sounds just like a romance novel!
Felicia, when I was an undergrad, I once fell asleep in class, and I woke up in the middle of talking to the instructor! I have no clue what I said, but from the bewildered look on his face, it wasn't the right answer to whatever his question was, LOL. I still get embarrassed thinking about it.
Shannon Jean, I have house dreams too, but in my dreams I'm always exploring a huge, old mansion, and it's always really exciting. Like searching for buried treasure!
Teawench, argh, that's horrible!
I dream masses - most nights - but I don't think I've ever incorporated one in a story - probably way too weird!
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking how some of my dreams would make great books! Great guest post :)
I can't remember any dreams specifically, but it never fails to amaze me how my dreams will sometimes incorporate things that I just saw on TV or happened to read in some strange way, I always wake up with a sense of deja vu.
ReplyDeleteReally looking forward to reading this book, thanks for the giveaway!
Thanks to Rosalie for such an interesting guest post - a vivid dreamer myself, its great to think dreams led to the writing of these books.
ReplyDeleteMy dreams? I often dream of my teeth falling out but they are still hanging in my mouth, attached only by their roots, so that I'm unable to talk properly ..... scary.
I am a very vivid dreamer. I have such lucid dreams, when I was younger, I had to actually learn I could control them, when they got too bad. I have had dreams that come true. I remember one, it was a plane crash in the potomic river one winter. I woke up at 4 in the morning with that one, and went downstairs and turned on the news. There was the plane crash.
ReplyDeleteI would love to read your book.
My dreams are so crazy I don't think I'd want to turn them into a book! Glad it's working out for Rosalie, though. :)
ReplyDeleteYears ago, I had a dream which featured a young Brad Pitt. We were in a car together, I was driving, and he wanted me to pull over so he could kiss me! Of course I woke up before I got to the shoulder! LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for the contest.
Daydreams create my muses, mostly when I'm stuck in a meeting. I always doodle my ideas on a blank sheet in the middle of the pad so no one sees, but think I'm being aggressive at taking notes. Do the same thing in church, where ironically, is where my steamy scenes seem to manifest! Maybe I'm a dark angel in disguise? Thanks for the giveaway opportunity. I'd love to read your book.
Thank you for sharing today and for the invite to the post, as well as the awesome giveaway opportunity. I had a dream many years ago and though I cannot remember the particulars any longer, I still remember the feeling. If I keep pondering maybe it will come back to me in a good book.
I wish I was a vivid dreamer, then maybe I'd have an interesting story to tell. I do get a bit jealous of my dog when he is barking in his sleep. I know he is dreaming of something grand and I wish I could be a part of it. LOL
I don't sleep much, maybe 4 hrs a night if I'm lucky. So I don't dream much either. But several years ago when my youngest was about 13 I had this dream that I had to get him somewhere (no idea where) and we were in the house. When I tried to leave the house was surrounded by crocodiles. I stood at the door trying to come up with some sort of plan but none came. Being SUPER MOM I decided to just walk on top of the crocodiles. It worked and I woke up.
I almost never remember my dreams once I wake up:(
ReplyDeleteBut I do like to sleep! Sometimes I'm accused of sleeping too much too but I just seem to need more than average person lol. The thing I hate is that for some reason if the phone rings while Im asleep I'll answer it! And I never recall what I say but people tell me later whole conversations that I have no memory of. Thankfully nothing embarrassing so far....oddly I seem to make similar decisions in my sleep as awake LOL
Great post! And so neat to hear about the dreams. And yes. I'm a sleeper too. ;) But that is great to hear the stories start there. Very neat. And the books sounds wonderful too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
(Oh, sorry I don't have an ereader, so no need to enter me for the book, but sounds wonderful!)
Wow, thanks for all the great comments, everyone! Glad to see that are such vivid dreamers here. :-)
ReplyDeletePetty, I have that awful tooth dream all the time! I hate it!! Whenever I wake up I have to check my teeth to make sure none of them are actually loose, LOL.
Debbie, wow, that's scary. I think I'd be afraid to sleep!
Tracey D, I like your Brad Pitt dream. A lot. ;-)
Sounds like a very good read. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com
ReplyDeleteMy dreams are usually very garbled & make no sense. I think I don't have enough imagination for a good dream! I always seem to be dreaming of upcoming exams which I've not studied for or getting into car accidents. Or losing my teeth.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely NOT writing material worthy!
My dreams are pretty vivid, too. :) It's wonderful you find inspiration for your books in your dreams. Congrats on your new release, Rosalie, and keep dreaming! :)
ReplyDeleteI used to have the same dream over and over. I would be stuck in the middle of one of those power plants...you know...the ones fenced in with metal lines and wires everywhere. I could never get out..it was like a maze. I have no idea why I would dream about that but it started to suck when I had it quite often. I think your book sounds great and I'd love a chance to win a copy. Please count me in. Thanks.
I get some of my best ideas from my dreams! some of them are so wild, they defy explanation! But in one dream, I was on the verge of selling my soul to the devil when I went into another dream.
ReplyDeleteMargay1122ATaolDOTcom
I'm not a big dreamer, or at least I don't remember them often. I did have a weird dream about a neighbor I barely know. We were going to have a good bye party for a neighbor who doesn't exist in real life.
ReplyDeleteYour book sounds great!
This is so funny, because I'm always having crazy dreams! Just last night, my dream was about being of adventures in the mountains with my boyfriend, and we found some dragons and we ride them, lol. I have had dreams about flying, falling, fighting, haveing powers, being a vampire and werewolfe, meeting a mermaid. But sometimes, I have really creepy dreams about zombies (That's scary) the end of the world stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway, your book sounds really amazing!!
