My submission this week:
by Michael R. Underwood
Clerks meets Buffy the Vampire the Slayer in this original urban fantasy eBook about Geekomancers—humans that derive supernatural powers from pop culture. Ree Reyes’s life was easier when all she had to worry about was scraping together tips from her gig as a barista and comicshop slave to pursue her ambitions as a screenwriter.
When a scruffy-looking guy storms into the shop looking for a comic like his life depends on it, Ree writes it off as just another day in the land of the geeks. Until a gigantic “BOOM!” echoes from the alley a minute later, and Ree follows the rabbit hole down into her town’s magical flip-side. Here, astral cowboy hackers fight trolls, rubber-suited werewolves, and elegant Gothic Lolita witches while wielding nostalgia-powered props.
Ree joins Eastwood (aka Scruffy Guy), investigating a mysterious string of teen suicides as she tries to recover from her own drag-your-heart-through-jagged-glass breakup. But as she digs deeper, Ree discovers Eastwood may not be the knight-in-cardboard armor she thought. Will Ree be able to stop the suicides, save Eastwood from himself, and somehow keep her job?
I got this one a while back when it was free. Can't wait to dive in.
So, what is on your list this week?
Really? You want to know what I've got to read this week. I'm already in the hole but here goes, The Elephant of Surprises by Brent Hartinger, The Sweetest Dark, Eternity Cure by Ms. Kagawa, and In the Shadow of Blackbirds. But I am in the middle of The Collector and I'm loving it, so I don't want to put it down! Of course, none of those are throwbacks, sorry. I just have a heavy month of reading. My fault of course.

And it's late and I should be sleeping!
*backs away slowly*
DeleteOh actually I have a couple of those books coming up too! Don't you love it and hate it at the same time?! LOL
You mean there's a book called Geekomancy out there and I didn't write it?! As Charley Davidson would surely point out, that sucks more ass than liposuction! I'm adding this to my tbr because it sounds really great.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a good day when you get a Charlie quote! :) I can't wait to dive into this one.
DeleteI remember when this came out and really wanted it, but missed out on the free option! SOunds geeky and fun - read it and tell us about it!! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh hopefully it will become free again. Sometimes it happens. If I see it, I'll let you know. :)
DeleteNever heard of this book. I like the cover.
ReplyDeleteSo need to read it. :)
DeleteLove those free books Melissa! I got Knight by Kristen Ashley (her books are so over the top and addicting) for $.99 a while back but it's just been sitting on my kindle waiting for me. I need to make time for it:)
ReplyDeleteI know! Great price. :D
DeleteI'll have to check out that author...
aaah this book is so fun!
ReplyDeleteI remember your review! One of the reasons I can't wait to get to it.
DeleteGeekomancers aka humans that derive supernatural powers from pop culture? Really? I'm sorry but I can't help but think that this genre is becoming too silly.
ReplyDeleteSilly is sometimes another word for creative. Sometimes it really works and I love it when that happens. Besides, I'm silly anyway. :D
DeleteIt does sound cool :D
ReplyDeleteYep, I agree. :)
DeleteWow this book sounds AMAZING. How have I never heard of this? You had me at Clerks meets Buffy. :-) I have Cornerstone by Misty Provencher on my e-reader (also free) and am trying to work around my schedule and read it finally. *fingers crossed*
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for picking Geekomancy for Thowback Thursday! I hope you enjoy the novel.
Sincerely,
Mike
I LOVED THIS BOOK!! Is there a second one out yet? *runs to Goodreads to check*
ReplyDeleteOh, oh oh! I have this one too! Dang I so need to get to it. :) Great pick!
ReplyDeleteYou know, we could totally do a read together with so many books in common. ;) Thank you for joining in the post. :)
Hurry up and review it!!! Haha It sounds fantastic and wild. I may even go download it myself.
ReplyDeleteI think I have this book---will have to look!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely curious to hear your thoughts on this one! It certainly sounds unique!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I'd never heard of this one before. It sounds awesome! It's only an e-book though? I need to get some type of e-reader ASAP. I keep missing all these awesome books because I don't have one and I hate reading on my computer screen.

AHHH as if my tbr pile is not already bursting at the seams..and here you are teasing me with one from your pile. This sounds so good and I love a good urban fantasy.
ReplyDeleteAs you say silly can sometimes be creative and inventive and if nothing else is usually fun.
ReplyDeleteAnything that makes any kind of reference to Buffy has my interest! Lol. :)
