Born Wild (Black Knights Inc. #5) by Julie Ann Walker

Series: Black Knights Inc. #5

She's got three rules:
1. Trust no one… Eve Edens has been abandoned, used, or manipulated by almost everyone she's ever met. Born into ridiculous wealth, she's dealt with the petty jealousies and sordid little resentments for nearly thirty years. But after three botched attempts on her life, she can no longer ignore the truth. Someone wants her dead.
2. Avoid the bad boys at all costs… William "Wild Bill" Reichert, the wonderfully sexy boy who abandoned her years ago, is back in town. Only he's no boy. Now he's a covert operative - and he's all man. When Eve hires Bill to help her discover who is behind the attacks, Bill soon comes to suspect it's someone much closer to Eve than she dares to believe.
3. And never fall for the same ruse twice… The search for the killer takes Bill and Eve deep into the dark secrets and strange world of the rich and famous, and into the heart of red-hot passion re-ignited by the peril that threatens to consume them both. But does Eve dare risk her heart on Bill a second time?
My thoughts:
I enjoyed the characters Eve and Bill. I especially enjoyed this cover... but I have to say that both characters got on my nerves from time to time. Both lamenting what happened in the past even during intense times when lives were on the line. I get that they both were hurt and regretted what happened in the past, but I just wanted to take them both and put them in a small room to hash it out so we could get on with the story. I mean how hard was it to figure out that the father, who is meddlesome and selfish, is the one that got in their way. *throws up arms and walks away*

However, the rest of the story was pretty interesting. You still wanted to kick these guys for being so stupid... and we get to know more about the bartender, Delilah. I was quite happy about that and I can't wait to see that love story unfold. :) In the end, though we do get our HEA and I did smile at the end. So, since I'm an ending girl, I did really enjoy the twisted love tale of Eve and Wild Bill. There was a twist in Eve's mystery (other than the one that was easy to guess) and so it made me enjoy the story even more.

I give this book 3 1/2 stars. Even with the problems I encountered with the characters, I did enjoy the romance at the end. "Yay!" for HEAs! :D

  2. Yeah, I was like, "Hey, get over it. You were both young and stupid and it's not worth whining about still." I liked the Black Knights, though, and all that secrecy that surrounded them.

    1. ...and how obvious was it that the father had something to do with it all? LOL

  3. Y'know, I've never read a Julie Anne Walker. Probably won't start with this one, given the issue with the father, but I have been meaning to give her a try.

    1. Actually he isn't prominent, so it isn't too bad. They are fun even with the frustrations. :)

  4. Hmm, I'm not too sure my frustration with Bill and Eve wouldn't get in the way of my enjoying this. Still, 3 and a half stars is pretty respectable so who knows.

  6. I really get annoyed when characters carry their past with them as well. And I'm all for HEA.

  7. Despite the annoyance at least you got a HEA instead of a cliffie you cant' complain too much about that, right?

  10. Yay for HEA's! I can deal with annoying characters who need a swift kick in the rear if the romance is sweet/hot and headed for a happy ending. Great review! (Bdubbs, still drooling over the cover).

  11. I'm still stuck on the cover, I simply can't help myself. Staring at that dude is better than coffee and cinnamon rolls (which is what I'm having now). And the combination?! Enough said.
I dislike stubborn characters and the mistrust of this kind. I'd probably get annoyed pretty soon, but at least the rest is good.
