I'd like to welcome Kristen Painter to the blog! I asked her a few fun questions and at the end she is giving away her new book!
Welcome Kristen! Now down to the questions...
Why vampires? In other words, why do they appeal to you?
Vampires have a great allure - strength, beauty, power, immortality - and yet, they're still monsters, something a lot of work today doesn't deal with. I wanted to bring back a little of that darkness to the creature in my books.
Play list? Many people like to have a playlist with songs any quick ones off the top of your head that would go well with Blood Rights?
I actually need complete silence. I find music distracting since I usually end up singing along and scaring my cats.
Favorite book(s) that lead to the creation of this series?
The only "books" that might have in some way been an inspiration would be the Cloak and Dagger comics I read in high school (and still have carefully preserved with my other comics in individual plastic bags). I loved comics then and I still do today.
Favorite movies?
After Dark is a great lesser known vampire movie that I could pretty much watch every day. Other than that, I really love Steve Martin movies like My Blue Heaven and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
We are getting ready for Halloween. What was your favorite costume you have worn?
When I was in college in NYC, I had this fabulous vintage '50's leopard print dress. I sewed a tail on it, wore some ears and did a full face of cat makeup, then went to the Village parade with a friend of mine who dressed as a panther. We had people taking pictures of us!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks for answering my strange questions. I also need silence to concentrate and I would love to see that dress!
Now...
Kristen is giving away a signed book, Blood Rights (review next week). All you have to do is fill in the rafflecopter form. This one is US only and will end on the 30th.
I completely agree about the allure of vampires. I didn't actually feel that until I was older though, because my worst fear as a child was actually vampires.
ReplyDeleteMalkolm sounds like an interesting guy! I'm guessing since he's cursed to kill everyone he feeds on that vampires don't necessarily drink to the death in this book - I like that!
Vampires always that ulitmate bad boy feel to them - although I'm not so keen on the sparkly ones! I like them when they are dangerous and you can't trust them. :)
ReplyDeleteMy copy of Blood Rights arrived last week and I can't wait to start reading!
I got this one from netgalley, now I just need the library e-reader cos it sounds so good, and different.
ReplyDeleteGreat interview :=D
Great interview and a book I might read...thanks!
ReplyDeleteANA who cannot log in today and is angry...
Thanks for the giveaway! This sounds really good.
ReplyDeleteThis has been getting a lot of great buzz from bloggers I've learned to trust, so I've moved it from the "Maybe" List to my TBR. :)
I have to have complete silence when I'm working too! I can't even comment on blogs with music on or I end up typing the lyrics. Ridiculous. I absolutely adored this book, cannot wait for the next 2 installments!
ReplyDeleteI loved black and white dracula movies as a kid, and now they are even better. thanks lisapeters at yahoo dot com Lisa bookhimsdanno.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteRain Maiden - We have four cats. If I didn't watch my husband closely, we'd probably have ten. lol
I can't wait to read this book! Great giveaway!!!
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw this book I put it on my TBR pile. The cover is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI think the same as everyone else about the vamp lore. Look at the old movies with Lucy and Harker. They made it all so romantic. He sneaks into her room as she lies there in a negligee with mist all around...
ReplyDeleteI watch Supernatural-Fav Show in the world! Tonight is the Season Premire, Yay
Anyways, last season they had an episode called "Die now or Twihard" Teehee, love their titles!
They make references to peeps like us who romanticize vamps when the ones in their show are a bit more vicious. Although, in a few of their episodes, they didn't show them as bad. Amber Benson played a 'vegetarian vamp' that Sam and Dean helped escape...
I'm really digressing, here!
Great interview!
I've actually read this on an ARC Tour and utterly LOVED LOVED LOVED it!! and it would make it wonderful if I had a copy of it for myself =) Thank you so much for this chance at winning a copy!!
ReplyDeleteThis book looks fantastic! And don't get me started on the cover. It's like creepy/romantic/classy/sexy/scary/dramatic.
I love Cloak and Dagger too! I love that you're into comics!
ReplyDeleteI had a chance to attend some panels that Kristen was on during AAD and she's friggin' hilarious. Thanks so much for hosting this giveaway!
I always need complete silence when I write as well. A good thought always disappears if someone starts talking or a catchy song comes on the radio. I love the cover art and I hope to win.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
ReplyDeleteI love vampires and other paranormal stories. I don't need complete silence to read. i have 2 children and there is never total silence anyway. I usually listen to the radio while I read.
Really a great fun interview. :) I have to say I love watching Steve Martin movies. He is so much fun. I wish he would make more of them. :) Thank you!
ReplyDeleteMyWorldinwordsandpages{at}gmail{dot}com
Is it totally wrong that I want to dress up like panther, now? I don't think my hubby would like me going out in that much black spandex, but OMG it would be fun. Something about a tail...or maybe that's because I've read WAY too much PNR!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Steve Martin. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was one of my first introductions to him when I was a kid. I also love Roxanne and Father of the Bride (I & II). His movies make me smile and are guaranteed to make my day.
I cannot have music playing EVER either! Unless I'm cleaning! If I'm commenting on blogs, writing a review, or even reading...music distracts me! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat cover! Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read this book! It sounds wicked awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe cover is amazing! Absolutely love it! The book looks really interesting too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
