MY KISS CAN KILL.This is book 2 in the Nightwatchers series, and Dark Kiss is the first book. And while you could read this one without reading the first, I don't suggest it. I do think you get a better feel for what Sam has gone through and also a better feel for all the characters.
I used to be ordinary Samantha Day, but that's changed. Now, after one dark kiss from a dangerous boy, I can steal someone's soul...or their life. If I give in to the constant hunger inside me, I hurt anyone I kiss. If I don't...I hurt myself.
Bishop is the one whose kiss I crave most, but if I kiss him, I'll kill him. Then there's another boy, one I can't hurt. One whose kiss seems to miraculously quell my hunger. They're both part of a team of angels and demons that's joined forces in my city to fight a mysterious rising darkness, an evil that threatens everyone I know and love. I just wonder if I'll be able to help Bishop-or if I'm just another part of the darkness he's sworn to destroy....
NIGHTWATCHERS
When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...
I think I enjoyed this book more than I did the first book. Also, in the first book I have to admit I was so much more interested in Kraven than Bishop. However in this book, I think that Bishop outshines Kraven (to those that haven't read the first, no love triangle. Thought I should mention that). I think Bishop interested me in this book more because we get to see that he isn't perfect and that there was some darkness in his past even if he was an angel. Oh and fans of Kraven don't have to worry, I still loved that demon. Still had his snark and even a vulnerable moment or two. Hopefully if there is more to this series, we get a Kraven book. I still really enjoy him. :D
I give this book 4 stars. The twists in the book were predictable, but still entertaining. I enjoyed my time here and I also enjoyed the twist on zombies this world has. A few questions still remain about the grays in particular which amounts to a small plot hole, but nothing that bugged me too much. Hopefully a novella or another novel will take care of that hole and fill in the answers. :)
I received this eARC from Harlequin Teen and NetGalley and no compensation for my review was given.
PS... I still love the first book's cover:
Swoony, right? :D
I haven't tried this book by this author but I liked her other ones. You made a mistake in the name in the title, it's Rowen not Rowan.
ReplyDeleteYep. Fixed! :)
DeleteAnd I love the second cover, cool colors
ReplyDeleteI love that one too, but I like the way the first one was done... especially the wings. Very creative.
DeleteSometimes predictable isn't so bad. I like predictable, especially if I like the world and characters in a book. While I wasn't the biggest fan of this book, I totally get the appeal of the series. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteSo true. I don't mind it as long as I feel entertained. :)
DeleteI love the covers and I love her adult series. I am just not convinced yet to add this to my YA try list yet. Maybe someday.
ReplyDeleteI think you'd like this book more than the first.
DeleteI haven't had much luck with this one, I'm afraid. I started it but was disappointed by the predictability and the extremely formulaic plot. I do like the covers, especially the second one and I loved Rowen's fantasy, Falling Kingdoms. Maybe there's hope for us yet.
ReplyDeleteGreat review. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I still need to read Falling Kingdoms. It's on my wishlist. Oh and yes, I do agree it is formulaic but I was still entertained so I didn't mind it. I did like her take on zombies. I thought that was pretty original. :D
DeleteYay for no love triangle! I like the fact that there are multiple boys yet no geometric shape of any kind forms. WIN. I really need to read this series, I think I'll be a fan of Kraven. A boy with some snark is my kind of boy:) Awesome review Melissa!
ReplyDeleteWell, there are geometric shapes, but no triangles... ;) Lots of interesting relationships. You would so love Kraven. I'm still hoping we get a book with him as the main character.
DeleteI haven't had an urge to read this series but as more people read them I'm getting more and more convinced that they might be worth giving a shot!
ReplyDeleteVery glad to hear that this didn't develop into a love triangle! I was a big fan of Kraven in book one, so I'm excited that his snark is on display again in this book. Also, good for Bishop for stepping up—I don't remember much about him from Dark Kiss, even though he's the main love interest. It sounds like I'm safe devoting an evening to reading this; so many people whose opinions I respect have enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I would TOTALLY read a Kraven novel if such a thing ever happens. Awesome review!
Glad you enjoyed this one more than the first, but got to see a different side of the characters, esp. Bishop. ALthough I think I like the sound of Kraven too :)

Ooo, I'm glad you added the cover for first book. I remember that one. :) Glad to see you enjoyed this one more. :) Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHmm, not sure if I want to read this book since I didn't really like the first book. Thanks for sharing. I might reconsider my decision.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Swoony! And I really hope this girl gets to kiss Bishop without killing him. I think it's only fair since it sounds like she didn't sound like she signed up for this duty willingly!

I am looking forward to reading this, and am so delighted to hear you say you liked this one even more.
ReplyDeleteGod I STILL have yet to read Dark Kiss!!!!!! It's super encouraging that you like the series though! I've heard mixed things and it freaks me out!
