This is a sweet PNR. Or, at least, it ends up being one. Let me explain... Lilly, the main character has been sleepwalking all of her life. Knowing something was missing, but not knowing exactly what. Before she knows it, strange things begin to happen and she is suddenly in danger. Christian, comes to her rescue and whisks her away to a group of kind, if not odd, people. She feels calm in their presence, but knows they are manipulating the situation. Plus, they know more about her than she could think possible. Not knowing the situation, she learns more about them and feels like she belongs someplace for the first time in her life. However, how does she balance the seething and righteous anger of her rescuer to the one person she keeps getting drawn?

As you can see there is tension, emotions, and a possible direction for love. Not going to tell you who what or where, that is what you will have to find out for yourself *evil laugh* ;) I will say that it is an interesting turn of events. At first, I did not like Lilly. She was too eager to be with people with no information at all. I thought she trusted them way too soon and was too influenced by those around her. However, she does learn in this book and begins to think for herself. That is when I really started to like her. Her decisions were well grounded and she was brave. By then, the PNR to this book was really there and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

As a whole, I give this book 4 stars. Despite what I saw as a shaky beginning, I really enjoyed it in the end. I will review the next one in this same post. I will endeavor to make it spoiler free. :)

This story starts slightly before the ending of the first. I do think you need to read the first before reading this one so you have a full understanding of who sentients are and a grasp of the characters, especially Christian. This is important, for Christian especially, since we see from where he starts to where he ends up in this book. We do see things through one POV, Nicole. It is her and Christian's journey in this book and many of the lessons learned in this book apply to everyone. How we perceive ourselves in relation to others. How we accept ourselves in the face of feeling inadequate. How to find ourselves in the flurry of other people's opinions. How we don't often look around and see that just about everyone else feels the same way. 

As I stated, I will not reveal too much in case you haven't read the first just yet. I will tell you that I give this book 4 stars and recommend it to those that loved the first book and PNR lovers as well. :)

This is actually the second novel in the Horngate Witches series. I had not read the firs one, Bitter Night. It wasn't necessary to read this one, but I would recommend it. I wasn't lost, but things were referenced that made me extremely curious. So, I know I'll be picking up the first one as soon as I can. I need to see how this all started. 

Max has a lot of trust issues and you can easily and quickly see why. She was betrayed in the most horrific way and everything she knew as a human was stripped away in one drunken decision. She is also has issues with a powerful creature who wants her, but she doesn't know why. If this isn't enough, family that she hasn't seen in a long time is in danger and she needs to get to them quickly. Her attraction to another blade who is under her command isn't helping things in her upside down life. In all this she learns that Guardians of magic have determined to extinguish human life and everyone is caught in the crossfire. Wild magic is everywhere threatening to end all life as we now know it. 

This was a fun ride and I found the characters interesting. Max is snarky mostly to keep others away, but it often has the opposite effect on others used to people obeying their every order. Alexander is a perfect compliment to Max and I loved them together. For example a quote where Max speaks first about wanting Alexander around:

"Yeah Slick. That's what I'm saying. You're like a boil on my ass that I've gotten used to."
"That's so sweet. Like a Hallmark card from hell." 

Yes, they do have good chemistry together. lol

This book ends with questions needing to be answered. The adventure she sets out does get solved, but the open ending makes you yearn for the next quickly. I for one will be looking out for that book. So, therefore, I give this book 4 stars and I recommend you read Bitter Night first and then bite your nails and wait like me for the 3rd in the series. :)

Can You Survive the Zombie Apocalypse? by Max Brallier

 This reminded me of those little quizzes you take to see how long you would survive various situations. One was how long you would survive a velociraptor attack. You both were chained to something and I think I lasted 3 minutes or something (I hit it with my torn off arm, and I'm absolutely sure that is what gave me another minute of fighting time!). Anyhoo.... this book reads like those quizzes only it is more extensive and in a story format.

I know the question... did I survive? Um... well, lets just say, if I get a hankering for something fresh, you might want to run in the other direction. ;) I do plan on going back to the book and try different scenarios to see if I at least last longer than I did the first time. At least give me this... first, I'm not a horn-dog man. During the story that was told, I wouldn't have made the decisions that the story told, but it was still the part of the story/path that I took, so I suppose I must take responsibility for it. *sigh* Even so, it was fun to see where you would be taken to next once you decided.

I give this book 4 stars. It's all in fun and I even laughed at certain scenarios. It's not just a book, it's a game. It's for anyone wanting to see if they will survive without all the hunger pains for brrraaaiiinnnnssssss.... :D
