This time around, someone seems to be targeting Stuart Mosley, the president of First Trust bank. Lots of people have grudges against Mosley, but the more I investigate, the more Mosley’s problems seem to be connected to some of my own, especially when it comes to the Circle, the evil, shadowy group that is secretly responsible for much of the crime and corruption in Ashland. 

But when another blast from my dark and deadly past as the Spider comes to light, I wonder if I’ll be able to survive this dangerous new enemy, who has a burning thirst for revenge that will only be satisfied with one thing: my death. 

Note: The title of this book has been changed from Cold Sting to Venom in the Veins.

My thoughts:

Another episode in Gin's life and I still enjoy these books. There is a familiar ring to most of these stories and for me, it is like coming back to old friends and going on a new adventure where Gin kicks some arse. While we don't quite move too much on the latest overall arc in this novel we do get a bit further glimpse into what is going on and it also made me even more curious about Hugh Tucker and how he fits into Gin's past, present and possible future (although how far into that future is yet to be seen). It seems like we keep getting hints on if he is a bad guy or a good guy and the jury is still out. It is frustrating in a good way as he rides the line between good and evil perfectly. I don't think I'd like it if all my answers came at once.

As with the other books the secondary characters are as interesting as Gin and we get to have more interaction with Mosley, Finn's boss, and we get to see how he has become more part of Gin's growing family. Without giving too much away, we see how Gin ends up not just protecting Mosley but how his past has been intertwined with her own.

I give this book 4 stars. It is another good addition to the series which I adore and I anxiously await the next book. I know I'm a bit light on details, but this is a series I think you need to experience yourself and I don't want to spoil any of it. Also, don't let 17 books scare you. A good book goes fast and you won't have to wait for the next one to come out. In some ways that makes me envious as I am now wanting the next book and I have to wait.

My thoughts (spoiler free):

You hear so much about sophomore slump in series but this one has none of that. I really liked the first book, but I have to say I enjoyed this one a bit more. This may also be enjoyed more by adults than the first one as one of the heroines in the tale is a mother, Naelin, who is quite mature to start, but still grows and has even more maturity in the end.

This book is split between several POVs (more than the first book) but you are never lost and it flows well. The multiple POVs enhance the story and bring you more fully into what is going on. We do get less of Daleina, our heroine of the last story, and her role and character feel like it is more relegated to a secondary character which might be my only complaint about the book. I really wanted to be with her as she also grew into more maturity. However, this is really a minor niggle and I still enjoyed the character who has fully embraced her new role in the story.

There were red herrings I fell for, some twists I figured out early and one huge twist I didn't see coming. This was an interesting adventure and a harder puzzle to see come together. It did fall into place well in the end and the book feels complete. You are left with open roads to more books in the series but no real cliffie... until... the epilogue. It wasn't the kind of cliffhanger I hate but it is one that does the job nicely in making me want the next book NOW.

I give this book 4 1/2 stars. I really think this one was even better than the first book, but do not skip that first book. The first book solidifies the world and the problems within it. It is also a good book and should not be missed on that merit. I highly recommend this series to those that enjoy fantasy. It can also be easily enjoyed by those that don't foray too deep in fantasy since it isn't heavy handed but an enjoyable adventure.

My thoughts:

I really enjoy Sarah Beth Durst's work and was excited to get this one, especially since I had the next ready once I finished it. I was not disappointed with this addition to her work and I really enjoy this author's imagination.

This is mostly a story about Daleina who doesn't exactly want to be queen but be an important part of protecting her realm. Her magic is different than the others as well as weaker, but her determination makes up for the rest. She also seems consumed by her quest and being simultaneously pushed and supported by her sister she forges ahead. In the end she makes several life altering decisions including who she wants to be in this world, but plans never work out the way we intended. She is forced into another decision and that leads us to the end of the first book. A satisfying ending but still not a completely happy one either.

I should also mention some of the other secondary characters who really enhance the worldbuilding and play nicely off our heroine. None are perfect but their imperfections really make the character. Ven is an interesting character we know we will see again but I have to say my favorite was Bayn the wolf. I won't explain more about that character, you will just have to see for yourself.

While I would consider this one to be YA, I think adults would also enjoy this fantasy. The worldbuilding is unique and I really am curious about the spirits they rely on and fear. It is a interesting mix of emotions and precarious trust (and total lack of trust) between both. It also leads to many questions about this world that aren't answered here but the lack of those answers aren't frustrating as we are learning as the characters learn.

I give this book 4 stars and I highly recommend it everyone. I really think it will appeal to those that enjoy fantasy and a unique world. It will make you crave the next book.

Another week, another few clues trickling in about the Circle, the mysterious group that supposedly runs the city’s underworld. Gathering intel on my hidden enemies is a painstaking process, but a more immediate mystery has popped up on my radar: a missing girl. 

My search for the girl begins on the mean streets of Ashland, but with all the killers and crooks in this city, I’m not holding out much hope that she’s still alive. 

A series of clues leads me down an increasingly dark, dangerous path, and I realize that the missing girl is really just the first thread in this web of evil. As an assassin, I’m used to facing down the worst of the worst, but nothing prepares me for this new, terrifying enemy—one who strikes from the shadows and is determined to make me the next victim.

My thoughts:

Another great addition to this series. It, once again, brings us an harrowing mission for Gin and also gets us a step closer to the overall arc in the series. I was interested in the overall arc in this section of the series, but this one really solidified my interest. I have a few questions I HAVE to know but I will try to be as patient as the Spider and wait to find out if a few of my theories are correct. Oh so many good clues and just enough of a tease to set you on edge in wanting the next in the series right now. Only problem I have with the series is that I'm up to date with the novels and that means I have to wait for the next one. You who have not read these yet will enjoy devouring them at  your leisure with out much wait. Sometimes that is an enviable position.

I did figure out the small twist in this one easily but there was no disappointment in the reveal. It still held so much tension (in a good way) that it didn't matter. You are still fully engaged in the story and the outcome. I think we may have also added to Gin's collection of people who make up her overall family. I love that she collects people like this and how they all fit together.

I don't want to say too much as I don't want to spoil this book nor do I want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't caught up to this book in the series yet. Although you could read a bit out of order, I really don't suggest it. There have been a few story arcs and you don't want to confuse those. You also should read these in order to get the feel of all the secondary characters as well as how Gin has evolved throughout the series. This is a series that should not be missed. I give this book 4 1/2 stars.

My thoughts:

Okay, I am probably one of the last people to have started this series. With so much raving I knew I had to try it. My audio peeps really insisted on audio and I'm glad I went that way. My library didn't have it in, so I got the CDs through the interlibrary loan and I'm not sorry one bit. Yea, the hype was correct, this one was good. 

I think for me the reason I enjoyed this one so much was the worldbuilding as well as Meg. She is innocent and shy but yet has a will to her that makes her someone you would want to know. She might be scared a lot, but yet it doesn't stop her from fighting for what she believes is right and for her own freedom. Of course Simon Wolfgard is a hoot and a half as well. A typical alpha growly male but also has a huge soft side he rarely lets others see. Having him trying to figure out those darn inedible (for various reasons) human females was fun. I cannot wait for more from these two. There is no romance, but a possibility of one. I'm glad there isn't one since Meg has yet to figure out who she is first. 

The plot is well written and had me trying to figure out what would happen in the end. There are multiple plot lines but it doesn't get tangled up unless it is supposed to tangle with purpose. While this was compelling, it was the relationships between the characters that really shined. 

I loved Alexandria Harris's narration and hope she does the whole series. She is now the voice of all the characters in my head and I wouldn't want it any other way. I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another book narrated by her.

I was flirting between giving this book 4 1/2 stars to 5. I think I'll go 5 stars because this was the perfect distraction I needed. It was also easy enough to slip into this world and not want to leave it. I highly recommend it to those that like the paranormal, fantasy and urban fantasy especially. However anyone who likes a different kind of character book would probably enjoy this one as well.

 Good thing this assassin brought plenty of knives to the gunfight… 

REVIEW:

Oh yes! Another addition to my addiction to this series. If you don't know I'm a fan of this series, then you really need to come by the blog more. I'll even put out some of the Pork Pit's BBQ and a side of slaw for you. If you don't know what that is, then you need to get to start reading this series. It's as good as I imagine Gin's cooking. :)

Speaking of which... this is a series that has always managed to make me hungry. Even though some of the food in this episode is less than Gin approved, most of it is, and it will make you want to dive into some food goodness. Therefore, I don't recommend reading this book (or the series really) on an empty stomach. Make a snack, get cozy, prop up the book and have an adventure with the Spider's gang. 

This book closely follows the previous book. So you do want to read Bitter Bite (Elemental Assassin #14) and throw in Unwanted (Elemental Assassin #14.5) for good measure. All deal with Finn's mother and the mess she created, but this one goes forward and also deals with the mysteries of the dreaded Circle. We even get more information on Gin's childhood. I really enjoyed knowing more about our favorite assassin. Unfortunately, while we do get to see a bit more abut Gin's mother, she remains a mystery. This isn't too frustrating, but it does keep us wanting more. I think with this book, I became even more curious about her mother.

I give this book 4 1/2 stars. I don't want to say too much for fear of spoilage, but this is one good rootin' tootin' time (should I throw in a "Yee hah!" for good measure?). ;) This is a series I do recommend reading in order. Oh you could start at the beginning of this arc or on a story arc previous to this one, but I think these are best read one after another. You get the full feeling for the characters and the world that way. I highly recommend this series to UF fans in particular.

My thoughts:

Oh if you have been reading these books and are a fan of Finn, you really need to get this novella! The last book was Finn's book as well, but still told in Gin's perspective. This is about the aftermath of what happened in Finn's POV. In this book Finn holds his own and you can see he is capable and deadly in his own right... if you didn't know that before. You also feel for him deeply in this story.

You may not have to read all of them to get to this novella, but I do suggest picking up a few of them first to get the feel for Finn and at least Bitter Bite before diving into this book. The last book is a necessity to know what is going on in this book and all of it is worth it. This is a series I have loved from the beginning and has a great secondary character list. So glad we are getting the perspective of those characters we love. Yes, there are several in this series.

I give this novella 4 1/2 stars. It is the perfect compliment to the series and the last book specifically. If you are a fan of Finn do not hesitate to pick this book up. You will love it.

Bitter Bite by Jennifer Estep

It’s funny how life works: one minute your best friend is rock-steady, and the next he’s doe-eyed and buying into this whole loving-relative routine to the point of ignoring you. I’d like to be happy for Finn, I really would. But all of my instincts are telling me that beneath the syrupy sweet demeanor and old-fashioned charm, this sudden interloper is planning something. The whole shtick leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. This person might have avoided the grave once, but I’ll put anyone who hurts Finn in the ground—for good.

My thoughts:

I love this series and I couldn't wait for this addition to the series. One where Finn becomes center in Gin's world. His momma comes back into his life and he must deal with the consequences of that action no matter if it is good or bad. Okay, that is as spoilery as I'll get and it was said in the blurb. As for the rest I'll try not to spoil anything else.

For me this one is about family. Ones we are born to and ones we make for ourselves. It is those ties that define who we are (both good and bad) and who we want to become. Sometimes it is a role model we emulate and sometimes it is an example we make sure we do not become. Because of this dynamic we can easily become involved in this storyline.

This one really kept my interest from the get go, but then I'm a huge fan of Finn. He always has Gin's back and I love the sibling camaraderie they both share. There is another story arc brewing and this one already has my attention and speculation. The book does not end in a cliffie, but does leave the door wide open for what is to come. I think we will get more of Gin's backstory in the works ahead. At least I hope this is the case.

I give this book 4 1/2 stars. It is a great addition to this series. While you probably could read this one without reading the other books in the series I do not recommend it. You need that established feeling of who they are to each other to encompass the fullness of this story. Plus I think you'd miss out on too much and this series and there is too much progression that you would miss. I highly recommend this series to those that really love UF.

My job is to maintain order among killers, crooks, and thieves, and soon I’m embroiled in a bloody game where the ability to keep secrets could be the greatest superpower of all. My enemies have all sharpened their knives and laid their traps, waiting for me to fall. But this Spider weaves her own webs of death…

My thoughts:

Yes! Another great addition to the series. This is one book series that just doesn't get old with me and I always look forward to getting back with the gang.

In this book I loved getting to know another criminal element that has a connection to Gin's past. I also loved how this one panned out. The adventure is complete but you sense something looming in the background. Yes, we have another arc forming that will most likely take place in the background of the series as the books move forward. Oh and this one is a shocker!

I give this book  4 1/2 stars. This book introduces us to characters I sincerely hope will become more important in Gin's life and I'm curious as to how she will continue to operate as the underworld's top boss. I love the transition of her character and I'm looking forward to more!

There Be Monsters Here. . . 

It's not as great as you'd think, living in a tourist town that's known as "the most magical place in America." Same boring high school, just twice as many monsters under the bridges and rival Families killing each other for power.

I try to keep out of it. I've got my mom's bloodiron sword and my slightly illegal home in the basement of the municipal library. And a couple of Talents I try to keep quiet, including very light fingers and a way with a lock pick.

But then some nasty characters bring their Family feud into my friend's pawn shop, and I have to make a call--get involved, or watch a cute guy die because I didn't. I guess I made the wrong choice, because now I'm stuck putting everything on the line for Devon Sinclair. My mom was murdered because of the Families, and it looks like I'm going to end up just like her...

My thoughts:
If you have followed the blog for any time now, you will know I'm a Jennifer Estep fan. I love her work and always highly recommend it. I was sad to see her last YA end, but I was excited for this one. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. When I finally got time to read it I devoured it and didn't want to put it down. Fans of Jennifer Estep RUN to the bookstore to get this book. Those that haven't quite read all her work, I still think you'll really enjoy this book. For me it was a mix of her adult UF Elemental Assassin with her last YA Mythos Academy books and some of her superhero series as well. It mixed well. :)

Now excuse me while I gush. I loved the worldbuilding in this book. I can really see the worlds of her other books blended well here. It also reminded me a bit of a Romeo and Juliet take. Not the romance (although there are hints of that, but not with our main couple but with a past romance) but with the world where to main powerful families feud. There is also a renaissance faire feel to the tourist trap that feeds the pockets of the most powerful families. Of course there is also magic and a darker side often hidden from the visiting folk. I also loved the characters of the book. Lila was easy to like and I can't wait to see more of Oscar, her pixie, which I feel will hold most of the snark for me in the coming books.

I don't want to say more or I'll spoil it, but the book feels complete even though you know you have only scratched the surface of this world and the mystery that surrounds Lila. Yes, that means there is no cliffie but you will be wanting more. I give the book 5 stars and I'm impatiently awaiting the next book. :)

My thoughts:

This story is a dystopian fantasy which the strong rule and the perceived weak become the enslaved masses who are supposed to be grateful for every crumb they are allowed to get. There is an x-men vibe to the ruling class, the Silvers who bleed silver and have elemental powers. The reds beed red and have no elemental powers. They even have class warfare within the Silvers in which the more powerful rule the less powerful. Alliances made and won also increase their dominion over others.

While this kept me engaged, I did have a few problems with the execution. While I really liked Mare, the heroine, and rooted for her, I had a problem with her being so easily manipulated. I do get that she is inexperienced and that even the most attentive person can fall to manipulation, I would just like a story where on occasion the heroine was one step ahead... even if it wasn't exactly to plan. There were times when I wanted to yell at her about her naïveté. The other problem stemmed from the romance. Those that hate love triangles be warned. There is more than a triangle involved here and it isn't resolved by the end. However, it really didn't bother me so much to take me out of the story. Perhaps it is because I didn't really feel strongly in any direction the book pulled you. I feel that the romance may play a bigger part as the trilogy progresses.

I give this book 3 stars. While I was interested in how things were solved and I was pleasantly surprised in the end, I still had a few problems with the storyline. It wasn't enough to ruin the book for me and I suspect that many of these problems will be solved by the end of the trilogy. I recommend it to those that enjoy YA dystopians and fantasy.

My thoughts:
Oh wow! I didn't think we would get the showdown we were waiting for so soon. I thought there might be a couple of books yet to go but I was so happy when we got it. I know that some of you aren't quite up to this book yet so I'll try to make it spoiler free.

Often in a series that runs this long and you get a big bad with impossible circumstances we often get regurgitated story lines. Not so here. The villain invents a new way to come at Gin and Gin responds in kind. It wasn't what I was expecting and I was pleasantly surprised. In this book brains won over brawn but brawn still helped in the end. :) Fans of Owen will love this addition and although the romance is scant, what is there packs a punch.

I give this book 5 stars. It is a series that is going strong at #12 and I can't wait for #13. I suggest that those that haven't started with this series start at the beginning. You have 12 books to devour in a row! I recommend it from the beginning to get the full feeling of all the characters. I also recommend it to those that enjoy UF.

My thoughts:
 Can you believe this is #11? I am still enjoying this series so much and this is a good addition to the series. I will do my best to not spoil it for anyone since I know that several of you aren't up to this book yet.

As we usually see in the series, Gin is up against a baddie who seems like he could get the best of her. And like the rest of the series I was sucked into the book and it didn't let go until I finished it. The pages flew by and in this book we end up with a new secondary character. I'm quite happy about that since I ended up liking him from close to the start. Don't want to give away more than that. As for the rest of the book, we do get a huge amount of information for the second story arc in the series. It is important and I was surprised we got so much. I think that arc is about to make it's way into being part of the main storyline.

I give this book 4 stars. This is a series I think at times can be read out of order, but I do not suggest it. The storyline arcs throughout the series makes more sense when read in order and so do the characters. Poison Promise is a great addition to the series and it will make you want more without having to indulge in the dreaded cliffie. I recommend the SERIES to people who enjoy UF.

My thoughts:
 This is the second book in the republished Damask Circle series by Keri Arthur. Even though this is the second in the series, it can be read as a standalone. You don't have to read them in order to understand what is going on here. Not much was revealed about the Damask Circle in the first book and little to none here. It is a mystery yet to be revealed. However, because of that, no problems with reading out of order. ;)

In this book our couple is Kirby and Doyle. Doyle is a panther shifter and Kirby has some sort of magic yet to be fully discovered. Her life gets ripped out from under her when her best friend gets mutilated and she is the next target. She must uncover long buried memories to figure out why and also much learn about her magic to save everyone. Doyle must help her on that quest while giving her the space to figure out things for herself. Hard to do when your family is known for falling hard and fast to a soul mate.

While this book does have insta-love, it is handled in a way that doesn't bother me. It acknowledges it and then tries to slow things down through Kirby's inability to trust. There are also several twists and turns in Kirby's mystery that keeps things interesting. I admit, I liked this one much more than the first in this series.

I give this book 3 1/2 stars. I liked this couple and the adventure surrounding Kirby. I recommend it to those that love PNR and like a bit of action to keep things sprinting along.

My thoughts:
If you have followed this blog for long, you know I love this series. In fact, I've read it in order (don't faint)! So happy to get to read #10. This is one that you could probably read a bit out of order, but not too early in the series. Only because it would spoil a few revelations in Gin's life. Hm... na, read them in order, you'll enjoy it more. :)

In this story we get a bit of Gin's background, when she was still learning and becoming "The Spider". You knew that there would be hard lessons to learn or she wouldn't have been as skilled as she is and as smart. In this one we get a naive young adult Gin still learning how to be patient, how to read people. You see her falling for the wrong guy and you are yelling at her to take heed to what her loved ones were saying to her. Even in her happiness, you do not feel it because you just know it will end in tragedy... or someone's blood. This isn't a huge spoiler since you know it from about the moment Fletcher starts getting the vibe that something is off. He had it from the beginning.

What was also enjoyable is seeing how many people important to her life now passed through when she was so young. Also, I must warn you.... as with all other Gin books, do not read this one on an empty stomach. All these books revolve around good food and this one is no different. You will want her to come cook for you even if you are putting yourself on the line by doing it. Just check out those food descriptions! :D

I give this book a 4 1/2. I really enjoyed my time with the young spider and wouldn't mind more stories like this! This series is recommended to those that enjoy UF and a bloody good time.

My thoughts:
Wow! I've been a fan of this series for a while now and we are at #9. I have to say I just loved this book and it gave me everything I've been wanting for a while now in this series. I won't say too much as I don't want to spoil it for anyone nor do I want to spoil it for those that haven't started this series yet.

First, I will say that this was a Sophia heavy book. I have been wanting to know more about Sophia for a long time. She is just one of the mysterious secondary characters that just captured my attention. In fact the book centers around her and that just made me ecstatic!

There is also another part in the book that readers have been clamoring. We want to know about what happens with Owen and Gin. All I will say is that there is a conclusion to that arc in the storyline but I won't say if it is positive or negative. No, I can't say more... *sigh*

I give this latest installment 5 stars. I really loved this one mostly because we get to know Sophia a bit more and it is as action packed as the previous installments in this series.

Deadly Sting (Elemental Assassin #8) by Jennifer Estep

Red is definitely my color. Good thing, because in my line of work, I end up wearing it a lot.

Most people shy away from blood, but for an assassin like me — Gin Blanco, aka the Spider — it’s just part of the job. Still, it would be nice to get a night off, especially when I’m attending the biggest gala event of the summer at Briartop, Ashland’s fanciest art museum. But it’s just not meant to be. For this exhibition of my late nemesis’ priceless possessions is not only the place to be seen, but the place to be robbed and taken hostage at gunpoint as well. No sooner did I get my champagne than a bunch of the unluckiest thieves ever burst into the museum and started looting the place.

Unlucky why? Because I brought along a couple of knives in addition to my killer dress. Add these to my Ice and Stone magic, and nothing makes me happier than showing the bad guys why red really is my color.

Can you believe that we are now at #8? Still, I can't get enough of this series! Again, being Gin.. the Spider, doesn't leave much for down time. Adventure and excitement keep her on her toes and we get into it just by shopping with Finn. However this is only the beginning...

We also get a lot of adventure with another nemesis. One that we hadn't seen before, but also shows Gin that she not only needs to be the elemental with strong magic, but also finesse. We also don't just get a simple... "here is the bad guy, defeat him and it's over". Oh no. As with the other stories Jennifer Estep also creates a story with finesse and twists about who was involved and why. We also get introduced to another thread in her adventures for future stories. Yep, Gin won't be vacationing any time soon.

This book was mostly Gin's tale. We get a bit of Owen and Finn, but not much else. The secondary characters that play hard in the other books are more background in this one. Although I didn't mind it for this story, I do hope for more secondary character action in later books because I enjoy them so much. I'm also hoping for a short on Sophia especially and Phillip as well.

I don't want to give too much away. However, let me just say that if, like me, love this series... you will not be stress free after this book is over. I do think that some people will understand what I'm talking about and others need to read the books to find out. :) I still hope I didn't give too much away. /cryptic paragraph.

I give this book 4 stars. It's just another fun... and bloody... good time (pun intended). I recommend this book to those that enjoy kick arse females as well as UF series.

When I first got this ARC, Jennifer Estep warned that some people may not like what was going to happen. I worried about that statement a lot while reading Gin’s latest adventure.

In this one we meet another bad element (forgive the pun) in the form of Salina who also happens to share a past with Owen, Eva and even a big underworld player, Kincaid. We find out quickly that Salina is not as she first presents herself. She is egotistical, and evil. In fact not only does she do her own killing, she revels in that fact. We also get a bit more background on Owen. I loved that peek into his past.

Ah, but where do I go from here so I do not spoil a thing? So much I want to say. I will address the first statement Yes, I was not completely thrilled in what happened, but it makes absolute sense. In fact, it would not have felt real if it didn’t happen. What is it? Heh... don’t you know me by now? I’m not going to tell. You’ll just have to read this installment to find out. I will tell you that it has made me want the next few books NOW just to find out what plays out with this little event. Yes, I said books. I’m not even sure if it will play to it’s conclusion in the next book.

I give this book 4 1/2 stars. I really enjoyed my time with Gin and her almost impossible enemies that she must defeat. This one filled with a lot more emotion for Gin. I can’t wait to be back in Ashland again.

I read and reviewed, The Lost (Sin Hunter's #1) by Caridad Piñero and really enjoyed that book. The sequel can be read as a stand a lone, but it is better to read them in order. You get a better feel for the world if you do.

In the last book we are briefly introduced the Christopher and Victoria. Claimed is their book. We find out if Christopher's intentions for good are true and what Victoria does with her life and love life now that her former betrothed is in love with another. The story and the romance between Christopher and Victoria creates a lot of tension. Their story is reminiscent of love stories such as Romeo and Juliet and the Hatfield and the McCoys. Both on opposite sides of a deadly feud, fall for each other. However questions rear themselves. Can they truly trust one another? Are they being honest with one another? Will their families ever see past the hate and come together? Can prejudices be put aside and harmony reign? Well, some of those questions will be answered, and some will linger onto the next installment in this series. We also get a hint of who is going to be the next romantic couple in the next book.

I have to say although I really enjoyed the ambiguity of Christopher (was he truly good? Bad? In-between?) though most of the book and the independence of Victoria, I also enjoyed the secondary characters with the exception of Rafael. He just didn't send the proper chills and thrills and I feel it was intended. However, he plays an important part in this story, but yet isn't their as much. I feel this is only a set up and I will feel properly chilled and thrilled in the coming books.

I give this book 4 stars. I enjoyed this hopeful coming together against all odds romance. I recommend it to people who love PNR with a side of action.

And since I destroyed my nemesis Mab Monroe a few weeks ago, all of Ashland’s lowlifes are gunning to make a name for themselves by taking out the lethal Spider—me, Gin Blanco. So I’m leaving behind my beloved barbecue joint and heading south with my baby sister, Bria, to cool my heels in a swanky beach town. Call it a weekend of fun in the sun.

But when a powerful vampire with deadly elemental magic threatens an old friend of Bria’s, it looks like I’ll have to dig my silverstone knives out of my suitcase after all. Complicating matters further is the reappearance of Detective Donovan Caine, my old lover. But Donovan is the least of my problems. Because this time, the danger is hot on my trail, and not even my elemental Ice and Stone magic may be enough to save me from getting buried in the sand—permanently.

Warning: There will be small spoilers for those that have not been reading the series...

I can't believe it is already #6! I love this series and I'm so glad to have been able to read this one. You think that after solving one of her biggest problems things would just settle down and perhaps almost be boring (I mean how boring could it be with Owen around? *sigh* Anyway back to the review...). Oh but this is Gin and of course you know that nothing is that simple with her. She finds someone in dire need of her services and it happens to be her sister's very best friend. So, if it involves her sis in even the smallest way, Gin is willing to come to the rescue and do things that others can't or are unwilling to do.

The story also involves Gin's strained relationship with Bria. I did have a problem with Bria's attitude, especially when she's been dating Finn who also isn't completely lawful and has killed people for money. I always thought that was a bit hypocritical. Also, we see that Donovan Caine is back and still has the same attitude with Gin and what she does. However, do not let these two things bring you down in the book. Both are solved and in a quite brilliant way. Bria gets a stick removal and Gin gets to tell Donovan how she hurt. I totally applaud both moves!

Oh and then there is Owen. *sigh* OWEN! Oh the contrast between Donovan and Owen just makes him SO much more swoon worthy. You will feel like me and want... no demand... that Owen be real and sweep... well.. ME off my feet. :D Oh Owen fans will NOT be disappointed with this book. Oh and I still say there was not enough Owen in the book... but again... I'm just a greedy wench. ;)

I give this book 4 1/2 stars. It is a great addition to the Elemental Assassin series. It closed some doors, opened some possibilities and gave me a fun ride in the process!
