Don't Fear the Reaper Read a Long: Week 4

Questions Week 4
Chapters 17-21
Questions from by Rainy Day Ramblings

1. One of my favorite aspects of this book are the witty snippets at the beginning of every chapter. I especially like the t shirt quotes. My favorites are:

Jenius

Sarcasm. Only one of the services offered.

Do not disturb. Already there.

What is the funniest t shirt or bumper sticker you have encountered? If you had a t shirt that best described you what would it say?

One of my fave shirts says: "Zombies like me for my brains". However if I had one that described me best, probably it would just say "Lunatic Asylum Patient".

2. Charley is constantly helping ghosts throughout the book. Would you like to be able to talk to ghosts and bring closure to their loved ones? How would you feel about all the ghosts popping up at all times day or night? Would you like to have a ghost like Mr. Wong in your house?

No, to Mr. Wong. Aunt Lillian might be fun on occasion tho...

No, I don't think I would like to do that. Especially if they were to "pop" in on you at any time. If I had to do it, there would be some ground rules...

3. Kim reveals some rather shocking and sad details about Reyes' past. Do you agree with her decision to adhere to her promise and not intervene? Would you be willing to keep your word and let a loved one die if it was their wish?

I don't know. I mean in Reyes's case, it may be worse to have let him linger even if you thought he was just human. The bullet went through his brain and he may not ever be able to have gained consciousness. There are worse things than death. It really depends on the circumstance. Of course, Reyes isn't human... ;)

4. In Chapter 19 Charley confronts the bad guy and finds herself in yet another situation where she gets her ass kicked. Do you like the fact that Charley consistently ends up getting her butt handed to her? What are your overall thoughts on Charley?

No I don't like it, and I really think she should be taking lessons on how to kick arse much better. :) However, it makes sense in the story. I like Charley. We should become gal pals... I'll make a pot of green chili, she can introduce me to Reyes... *sigh* uh what was I saying? ;)

5. Chapter 20 is a big, hot, smoking chapter. We finally get some answers on Reyes. Does the revelation change your opinion of him? Do you think he can overcome his "nature" and be a good person or is Charley in big trouble?

If he has free will, he can be who he wants. I think he is trouble, but what a nice package for trouble to come in... ;D

6. Did you enjoy this book? Will you be continuing the series?

Um... let me think... YES! and YES! :D

Don't Fear the Reaper: Week 3

Questions Week 3 hosted by Jen @ In the Closet with a Bibliophile.

Chapters 11-16

1. I do have a soft spot for Charley's Aunt Lilian. She is sweet and soft while somehow also being a little dirty and I find that hilarious in an aunt. Do you have any relatives dead or alive that remind you of Aunt Lillian? If not, tell me about your favorite deceased relative.

I loved Aunt Lillian. What a card... although I don't think I'd like her coffee.

My cousin who was like my big brother but not Lillian like. He was protective of me when we were kids and had a great sense of humor. He will always be missed. Okay, on to the next question before I tear.

2. In these chapters, we get a little closer to Reyes and his secrets. Neil, the warden at the prison where Reyes is currently incarcerated - and a high school mate of Charley's - tells a story about how Reyes ended up in the Coma and something he witnessed. What do you think of the story? What does this lead you to think about Reyes?

It made me think that Reyes was a special person who took care of the weaker. He had a good heart. That will twist you up later... LOL

3. One of the things I love most about Ubie and Charley's relationship is that Ubie aka Uncle Bob has absolute faith in our Charley. Maybe it's because Charley's been solving murder cases for ages and Ubie knows that Charley knows things. If you could pick a super power, which one would you choose? Seeing the dead? Invisibility?

I've always said I'd love to defy gravity. Flying, no bras... lol (had to throw that in there) freaking the doc out when they weigh you... lots of fun. :D

4. Okay, in my opinion, there is nothing better than walking into your living room and seeing the god-like creature of your dreams standing there waiting for you. If you were in Charley's shoes, who would be standing in your living room??

First, what size shoe does she wear? Hm... And second... REYES... duh... ;D LOL

5. We get a surprise visit from Rosie's husband and we find out some information about Reyes...that he and The Big Bad are the same guy. What are your thoughts? Were you surprised about Rosie's husband or did you feel that one coming? What about Bad Reyes, had you already made the connection?

If I remember when I listened to this the first time, I knew that Big Bad and Reyes were the same. I knew what was going to happen to that jerk, Rosie's hubby. I'm surprised he survived tho.

Don't Fear the Reaper: Week 2

Week Two August 9th: Chapters 6-10 hosted by Lila@ Babbling About Books and Stuff.

1 - Shiny objects and old family stories are told in this chapter, including an old nickname for our dear Charley. What was the nickname her uncle Bob gave her when she was little? Do you have an old nickname from when you were a kid? You can share it, and if it's really embarrassing we won't mind. *wink*

Calamity... as in Calamity Jane. I had group nicknames when I was a child hanging with my cousins, but noting embarrassing. My nicks are the usual ones for Melissa.

2 - In this chapter we met someone. A really special guy named Rocket. Now, my memory is not what it used to be, and I just can't remember what makes him so special. Can you tell me what makes this particular ghost unique among all the others? And how about you? What can you do that makes you special? Anything? Jump on one foot for a really long time counts. *giggle*

He is like a record keeper for the dead. He also saw the dead when he was alive.

What can I do? Hm... *scratches head* I can make a mean pot of green chili. I also can survive being squashed by a 100 lbs doberman!

3 - Charley is really *cough* not your ordinary girl. She does something that, well, there's no way around it. She named parts of her body and the names are... oh crap, I forgot. Just my luck. *sigh* But I'm sure you guys can say what part of her body she named and what the names were. And, since we are on the matter, have you ever named a part of your body? If so, what was it and what was the name? Come on, don't be shy. *wink+crooked smile*

Her boobs. One was Danger and the other was Will Robertson.

As far as my body part names... like this?:

:D Nope, no wooden legs at the moment... and no, I'm not telling anything else.

4 - We all have our little secrets. Things we don't tell anyone, not even our bff. Char (we became close :P ) is no different, but in this chapter she shared her little (big) secret (S) with her bff. What did you think about her reaction? What would be yours?

I thought she took it rather well. Plus, she already knew some stuff, so it was easier for her to take when the bigger secrets came out. As far as how I would react? I would hope I would believe her... especially since there is Reyes... I'd probably ask if she'd introduce me... ;D

5 - In this chapter, Char continues her heart-to-heart with her BFF and comes up with some theories about our fave badboy/possibly ghost. What do you think of it? Can it be? What do you think about him? Hot? Double chocolate hot? Super duper caramel chocolate cake with a cherry on top hot?

Well, I've actually listened to this one on audio, so I know what Reyes really is... but I will say this: What I think about him? MINE. All you need to know... Now, I'm hungry for dessert.

Don't Fear the Reaper Read a Long: Week 1

This week: hosted by Love of Books

Chapters 1 - 5 Questions

1. We meet some of Charley's ghostly "buddies," do you believe you have ever had a ghostly encounter?

Yes. More than one. :)

2. Charley named her jeep Misery. Have you ever named your vehicles? What did you name them?

I had a zoom car that I named Tigger (he was orange).

3. Charley says her name "...brooks no opposition. It takes shit from no one." What do you think your name says about you to strangers? Is there a different name that you think would suit you better?

Probably that "I read". I mean have you seen how many Melissa's have book blogs or are readers? LOL I'm used to my name, so I guess it suits me fine.

4. Charley says her best friend Cookie is "like Kramer from Seinfeld, only not so nervous, like Kramer might have been on Prozac." Give us your best description of your best friend. How would they would describe you?

Small and mighty. Often underestimated. She would describe me as compassionate insanity (honestly I don't know, but she has said both to me and I took them as a compliment LOL).

5. Garrett is reluctant to believe in Charley's abilities, how would you react if a friend divulged to you that they can see and speak with the dead?

I admit I would have a good dose of skepticism but I would hear them out. Who knows... they may be in contact with Reyes and he has a message for me...

Fairy Metal Thunder Read a Long: Last Week

This weeks questions are from Jen @  In the Closet With a Bibliophile

1. Grizelmore the Goblin has some really weird cravings and eating habits. Tell us about some of your weird eating habits. Bonus point if you can show me a picure!

Well, I do make a sauce from mayo and soysauce to put on asparagus. I've actually converted people to eat that veggie with that sauce. Sorry no pics... no asparagus and no mayo right now.

2. In chapter 22 Aiode and her friends try to go and get their instruments replaced at the factory. There are a ton of different instruments there being made for the fairies, but man are they a fortune. Do any of you play any instruments? Have you ever played an instrument? If not, what would you play if you could?

I used to play flute, piccolo, organ and a tiny bit of guitar. I'd love to learn piano, guitar and the celtic harp.

3. Jason and the band are finally discovered by the elf (with the crazy long name) and Buttercake the freaking adorable unicorn who turns into something not so adorable. If you were a detective who would you choose for your magical accomplice?

A hell hound. What can I say? I love big mutts with bad reps. :) Although... the unicorn was pretty cool after it turned into a dragon.

4. The book ends on a happy but painful note. What do you think of the ending? Were you happy with the turn of events?

No I was not happy. Too many questions left to ponder. Guess I'll have to read the next book!

5. Tell us your favorite quote(s)/part(s) from the book!

I enjoyed visiting the faerie and the unicorns. I also loved the ending action. What can I say? I love dragons and I was glad she could be regrown. :) This was a fun book.

I also want to give a shout out to AimeeKay (my associate reviewer) that reviewed this book not too long ago HERE.

Fairy Metal Thunder: Week 3

This weeks questions come from: Tina of Tina’s Book Reviews

1. In the beginning of chapter 14, poor Jason is having a tough time at work. Its busy, people are rude, there are hot girls talking to him, big lady's are about to starve, all in all bad work day. So tell us about a time when you had to deal with a pushy customer or rude behavior, did you freak, keep it together, throw a slawburger?

I wish I could throw a slawburger. If you had to work with the public, chances are you have a pushy customer. Sadly true. My most memorable one was when I worked in a music store. The guy knew our store manager who was also working with me that night. It was closing time and he decided to take his sweet time (no I didn't get overtime, darn it) and he treated me like I was his personal slave and gave me a smile every time he gave a "command". He was loving the fact that he had me running around the whole store getting things he wanted and putting back stuff he didn't. I was pleasant to his face, but totally flipped him off under the counter when I waited for him to saunter over to finally pay for his purchase. It was solid wood and high up so he couldn't tell what I was doing. What an @rse!

2. In chapter 16 Jason is getting ready to shoot his rocking music video and perform for a crowd. Have you ever made a rock video, been in a play or anything that shows you doing something with musical talent? Extra points if you want to show us.

I have been in concert band, orchestra, played organ (no jokes now... lol), marching band, pep band, flute choir and I even took dance when I was little. I also had a semester of guitar. Yep, I have played in front of crowds and small audiences. I own no pics when I did any of these things. :D

3. Speaking of videos, the boys have a little chat about Steven Spielberg in chapter 17, what is your favorite Spielberg movie? Can't think of one...well then tell us about one of your favorite Sci-fi movies.

Easy... E.T. Hands (er... fingers) down!

4. At the end of Chapter 17 the guys say bye to Dred who is getting ready to move, did you ever have to start over in a new school or new place when you were in highschool? Was it good, bad...horrible?

Not in HS, but in kindergarden 1/2 through the year. That was horrible. I didn't know anyone and a boy I liked took my asparagus! Um... I know that needs explaining, but I'll just let that one go for now.. LOL

5. If you had a pet Unicorn what would you name it?

Mr. Pointy

And just for fun: Would you rather be pecked to death by a vulture or eat a Goblins toenails???

I'd have to say vulture. You mention eating toenails and I'm totally squicking (it's a word, I just made it up!) out. :P

Fairy Metal Thunder Read a Long: Week 2

This week questions are from Reading the Paranormal

Questions for Chapters 7-13 of Fairy Metal Thunder

1. Unfairly grounded by his parents, Jason decides to lie to them so he can go to the audition in Minneapolis. Unfortunately, not only does the audition end poorly but his parents discover his lie and things go downhill from there. Tell us the most outrageous lie you've ever been caught in. Bonus points if you can provide pictorial proof. Reenactments eagerly accepted.

Seriously, I don't lie well. I'm really bad at it. I guess I'm boring with this one. I will say that (although there were other factors involved) I did get to ditch a few classes with teacher permission because I told the truth in HS.

Oh, I do know someone that doesn't mind lying on occasion however:

2. In Faerie, Aoide is summoned to see the Faerie Queen. Have you ever met someone important like the Faerie Queen? Someone famous? Tell us the story behind how it happened. Once again, pictures are a plus!

Hm... I currently have 3 cousins in a new Johnny Depp film. 2 may end up on the cutting room floor (despite the bragging... LOL) and the third will have some sort of roll in the film. Not sure what it is yet. I'm so happy for him. This is what he wants to do (mostly direct). I don't have a pic of him that is readily available (darn scanner)... hopefully I'll have one with him in his role soon. :D Of couse this satisfies both requirements. All 3 are important to me and famous in my life (even if 2 end up on the cutting room floor). ;D

3. Caught lying to his father about his non-existent job at the car wash, Jason has now found gainful employment at Buddy McSlawburger's - where he's forced to wear "the funny hat" as part of his uniform. What's the worst job you've ever had? Did it involve a particularly noxious uniform? Tell us about it - in riveting, full-color detail!

I never had to wear a uniform for work! *dances* La la la la! ;D (I'm not talking about my band uniform days...) My worst paying job? I'd have to say the fireworks stand. It was grimy, you ended the day covered in gun powder, sit in a tent in the hot sun and don't even get to go to the fireworks displays around town since you had to be open. *sigh* Poor put upon me... LOL Honestly, it really wasn't bad summer work for a teen. The worst part was smokers and people who was stupid enough to light a firework near the fireworks I was selling. Yes, that happened.

4. In an effort to regain their stolen instruments, Aoide and Rhodia travel to the sugar swamp to hire a hunter. Wouldn't you love to live somewhere where the water is sweet and the grass is made of sugar cane? Show us a picture of you enjoying your favorite sweet treat. Or, rewrite history and tell us how your version of the sugar swamp would differ from the one in the book.

Weird confession time: I'm not a huge sweet eater. My biggest change would be either less bugs and mud or more dog bats (to clear those bugs). I mean... with all the sweetness I possess... *cough* I would be bug food! ;D

As far as my ideal sweet place...  I always wanted to go to (more so the old version than the new):
I always wanted to know if that was tea and what that cup tasted like! Well, that and the shnozberries. What the heck is that??

Fairy Metal Thunder Read a Long: Week 1

This weeks questions come from Missie @ The Unread Reader

Questions for Chapter 1-6 of Fairy Metal Thunder:

1. At the beginning of the story, the Assorted Zebras are just a garage band, but they are expecting to make it big. Who knows, you just might find yourself at one of their concerts someday. Until then, show me your favorite concert t-shirt. It could be a picture of a concert you actually attended or a pic of a vintage tee of your favorite band. Be sure to tell me the story behind the tee.

I don't have any pictures from concerts I've attended... and I don't have any of my tees available for me to take a pic. Plus, I refused to buy any of the big name shirts ever since they reached $30+ for a flimsy one. BUT I will show you my fave place to attend a concert:
RED ROCKS BABY!
All the following by U2
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Surrender
A Day Without Me
(I just linked it since it is restricted and you have to go on the site to see it anyway oh and PS...to Bono.. Love the hair! LOL)
Unfortunately I wasn't at this concert, but it is at Red Rocks. Such a great place for a concert. They reportedly loved the venue but couldn't play there again since it is fairly small and they got big shortly after this was out. Poor guys. :D

2. Jason’s mom forces him to agree to do some yard work for Mrs. Dullahan, which wouldn’t be so bad if she wasn’t rumored to be a witch. Tell me about the worst chore you were ever forced to do. Who make you do it? Bonus points if you have a picture to share of you doing the dirty work.

I think I shared this in the other read-a-long. It was fielding calls on a phone operations center that should have stayed in the 20s that my dad forced upon me. Hm... well how about cleaning my dog after an accident when my dog got very sick (and don't worry, I was too busy to take pics, so relax...). That was a no brainer though that it had to be done. I just hated that they were sick. :(

3. Uh oh! There seems to be a jewelry thief in the neighborhood. Have you have had anything stolen from you? Or have you ever lost something precious? Did you ever find it? Make a Reward if Found poster for the stolen or lost item. Convince us to find it for you. Make the reward good!

Yes I did. My parents had this cat before I came along. When I was born the kitty took me over and I was hers! I have lots of pics of me and the cat, but my scanner is on the fritz so I can't show those... but my reward poster is (pic is unknown source and not my kitty):
No, we never found her and we are certain someone took her. :(

4. In Faerie, Jason declares himself as Jason the Guy Who Wants That Necklace Back. Weird, but then again every name has a meaning. What does your name mean? What is the origin? Do you go by any kind of nicknames? How did you get that nickname?

Melissa means HONEYBEE! (common Missie... you KNOW that!) :D

From Wikipedia:
Melissa is a given name for a female child. The name comes from the Greek word μέλισσα (melissa), "honey bee",[1] which in turn comes from μέλι (meli), "honey".[2][3] In Ireland it is sometimes used as a feminine form of the Gaelic male name Maoilíosa, which means "servant of Jesus." Melissa also refers to the plant known as lemon balm (family Lamiaceae; genus and species Melissa officinalis).
According to Greek mythology, perhaps reflecting Minoan culture in making her the daughter of a Cretan king Melissos, Melissa was a nymph who discovered and taught the use of honey and from whom bees were believed to have received their name.[4] She was one of the nymphic nurses of Zeus, sister to Amaltheia, but rather than feeding the baby milk, Melissa, appropriately for her name, fed him honey. Or, alternatively, the bees brought honey straight to his mouth. Because of her, Melissa became the name of all the nymphs who cared for the patriarch god as a baby
Nicknames: Missy, Mel, Meli, Miss Miss which are variations on my name. I've had others but none really stuck.

5. When Jason gets home from his all night adventures through Fairy, his parents unfairly ground him for a month! Care to share a time you were grounded by your parents for no good reason?

Oh I was a precious innocent child. Any and ALL punishments were for no good reason. *cough*

Married with Zombies Read a Long (with book review)... Last Week!

Last one!
This week questions come from: Missie @ The Unread Reader

Questions for Chapters 21-26

1. In Chapter 21, David and Sarah venture into a grocery store to try to find some essentials. Show us a picture of the top three items you consider your essentials when you go shopping.
2. Sarah and David travel quite a distance to “visit” a family member. Show us a picture of your most recent family vacation. Who did you visit and where did you go?

Um... vacay? What's that? When I travel to visit family I usually go to Denver.
denver_skyline_pink.jpg

3. Sarah refers to David’s sister as the Martha Stewart type because she likes to make things from scratch. Show us a picture a hobby or home project you get enthusiastic about making/doing.

I'm not Martha like (as I don't need everything perfect) but I love to make things. Usually it's stuff I know I can't afford, but think I can make on my own. It's different things at different times. Right now it's jewelry:
Sorry for the not so great photos. I didn't have the best camera at the time and I was being lazy and picking pictures that I already had available. These are 2 pieces I had fun coming up with and then my mom stole them. :) I'm glad she liked them so much to take them! :) Also, what I like about doing this, is if I decide I don't like it, I can take it apart and do something else with it.

4. David and Sarah decide to start up their own Zombie exterminators business, and even come up with a name and slogan for it, “S and D Zombie Extermination. We take care of your undead issues.” If you opened up your own zombie killing business, what would you call it, and what would your slogan be?

My zombie business would be:

 ZombieKilla

tag line:
Let us take a bite out of zombies before they take a bite out of you!

Of course I'd use my pups as the mascots... ;)

5. What were your favorite/least favorite parts of Married with Zombies? Aside from David and Sarah, who was your favorite/least favorite character?

The cult couple were my least fave character. They were scary. Fave? I guess it was Conrad. He was a hoot... for a short time... :)

6. What do you think is coming up next for David and Sarah? Which do you think has a better chance of survival, their marriage or their humanity? Will you continue reading this series, and if so, what do you hope to see happen in the next book?

Well, I think they won't try marriage counseling again. Although now I think their marriage stands a better chance than humanity. I do plan on continuing the series and I hope that they connect to Sarah's father. He sounds interesting.

My full Review:

A heartwarming tale of terror in the middle of the zombie apocalypse.
Meet Sarah and David.
Once upon a time they met and fell in love. But now they're on the verge of divorce and going to couples' counseling. On a routine trip to their counselor, they notice a few odd things - the lack of cars on the highway, the missing security guard, and the fact that their counselor, Dr. Kelly, is ripping out her previous client's throat.
Meet the Zombies.
Now, Sarah and David are fighting for survival in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. But, just because there are zombies, doesn't mean your other problems go away. If the zombies don't eat their brains, they might just kill each other.
Tired of the same old zombie theme? Wanna see a bit more humor than you are used to getting with this genre? Well, look no further... this book has all of that and gore as well! It's a book for couples as well as those who are still single looking for that unaffected partner.

Okay, commercial over. I really did enjoy this book. It does have the gore, zombie killings and even tugs at your heart strings. You also laugh a lot. And although Sarah and David's bickering does get old quickly, it really fits the story and they don't bicker for long. I guess the moral of the story is, is if you need to fix your marriage quick don't go to a marriage counselor... go find a zombie apocalypse to survive. Your marriage will thank you.

I give this book 4 stars and will be reading further in this series. I can't wait to see what else kind of trouble these two get themselves into and out!

Married with Zombies Read a Long, Week 4

To join in on the fun... click the pic above to go to the sign up page.
This weeks questions come from Tina @Tina's Book Reviews

1. In chapter 16 David and Sarah are attacked by freezer zombies in chef attire. Despite its rotten food and disgusting kitchen, lets think about what it could of been before the attack, give me a picture of your dream kitchen or a pic of you cooking your favorite food in your own kitchen... or both!!!

Okay, first.. me cooking? So NOT in my dream kitchen (or anyone else who has to eat my food either). So, I found my dream kitchen with ALL the accessories needed:
(picture half naked man in an apron...)

2. In Chapter 16, David winds up killing those freezer zombies with a machette show me your best one....and yes it must be yours!!!!

I don't have a machette, but I do have:
This is mounted high up and I'm short. So, actually since I can't get to it, it makes a lousy weapon. LOL Btw, this one was used in farming, fyi.

3. In Chapter 17 David and Sarah find themselves with some cult like people and wind up trapped. How would you escape? Ropes? Blankets....show me your best.

I was thinking something rope-like that I wouldn't have to rely on my "not" knot tying skills...
It's called a "long lead" and I think this one is 20 ft. long. It's used to train dogs away from you, but you still have a tether to them. You can tie easy knots for hand holds and I could loop the handle around something sturdy without having to rely on my knots. :)
(note: hedgehog toy not included)

4. In Chapter 19 David and Sarah find a surprise in the car they stole...in the midst of crazy its a nice welcome. Now whip me up your favorite one and share......you can include recipes!!

Okay there was 3 things and since you mention recipes... I'm guessing you mean the alcohol. Hm... recipes... Well, this one was my fave:

Flaming Dr. Pepper from Hell
1/2 shot of Amaretto
1/2 shot of 151 proof Rum
glass of beer

Light shot and then place into the beer. Let it mix a bit and then drink. It should taste like Dr. Pepper. :) (note: I've actually never made it... and... yes, I've drank it... *innocent look*)

5. In chapter 20, Sarah gets to kill a zombie with a cash register, bringing back memories of her worst retail job ever....so tell me whats the worst job you've had......if you can include pictures in your uniform I will die laughing.....or a picture of the place you worked will be good too... :).

I actually never had a job where I had to wear a uniform. I've had lots of retail jobs from selling fireworks to music to clothes. However, my worst job wasn't even paid. My father made me get up at 5 am *grumble* on my summer vacay and travel for 3 hours to go volunteer at a VA hospital several days a week. Plus, I had to work on the most antiquated phone system in existence. It was a lot like this (although a LOT bigger):
Not EVEN kidding... I don't think they ever upgraded since it was always threatened with being shut down (it was closed down a few years ago). Wires got crossed easily and I even got yelled at when I accidentally disconnected someone. *sniff* Not my fault they didn't know what modern tech was! LOL Yea... thanks dad... :P

Married with Zombies Read a Long Week 2

To get the deets of this read-a-long, just click on the button above. This week's questions come from Ashley, The Bookish Brunette

1.In Chapter 6, Sarah and Dave raid Amanda’s apartment for guns… When they come out they run into their super, Mr. Gonzales, when he tries to attack Sarah:

What does she hit?
A box that holds the fire extinguisher

Do you have one of these?
Nope, don't have a fire extinguisher box. ;D

You could totally bash some Zombie brains with one!Show me whatcha got! If you don’t have one of these, then anything that you would find in a hallway of an apartment building! (good luck!) lol

2. In Chapter 7, Sarah and David are watching a news report of the zombie attacks when the doctor on TV attacks the reporter… The news crew steps in and starts bashing the zombie with a boom mike, grab the nearest similar object (whatever’s handy) that you would use if you were attacked at WORK!
Okay, I cheated a bit. My boy is not allowed this close to my comp w/o me *shivers*, but it is the boy if it's not my comp. ;D

3. Chapter 8… Amanda, Sarah and Dave are preparing to head out of town, and while they’re getting in the car, three zombies attack them! Sarah bashes one with the butt of her shot gun as instinct takes over, so whatcha got? You’re getting in your car, fleeing the city- zombies attack, no guns or knives… What are you going to use to defend yourself??

Zombies... bashing brains... hm.... how about...
A tree/limb trimmer!

Well, I do have to go to the garage to get to a car and the tire iron is actually hard to get to! I'd be a zombie meal trying to get the thing... so of course I'd look around the garage. ;)
Oh and there was one more comment from the peanut gallery:
4. In Chapter 9 & 10 there aren’t any zombie killings… That we could replicate!!! So, give me a couple of your favorite quotes from Chapters 5-10!!!

“Well, I guess we better go out with a bang.” He smiled before he dropped his mouth to mine and kissed me. (p. 77).
Have you ever just wanted to smash a car? Or break a television? Or maybe burn a big fire in the middle of a city square? If the answer is yes, then you’d have some fun during a zombie infestation. It’s the little moments, you know? (pp. 92-93)
...zombieism breeds alcoholism. It’s true. Look it up. (p. 99)

Married with Zombies Read-a-Long

To get the deets of this read-a-long, just click on the button above. This week's questions come from Jen, In the Closet with a Bibliophile

1. In chapter 2 Sarah has to put her marriage therapist "to rest" with a letter opener. Let's see your weaponized letter opener in mid-action! No letter opener? Think fast! You need to rescue your friend/significant other! What are you going to use when no actual weapons are available? No knives, no guns! Show me what you've got!
I'm guessing you were going for something I'd find in an office. Sharpest thing I had near me. :)

2. In chapter 2 Sarah is wrestling with Dr. Kelly and David can't seem to find a weapon to help his dear wife with. Until...Sarah yells at him to use something on Dr. Kelly's body, which he grabs and smashes into her head. I want to see your most killer pair of this item!
How's these babies?!
No... I haven't gotten the hang of walking in them yet. I think it's more dangerous to me than the zombies. LOL

3. In chapter 3, Sarah hears an unexpected noise in the bathroom while she's nervously peeing. She grabs "the closest thing there was to a weapon in the room". I want a picture of the same type of item that is closest to you....no soft edges people. They won't do the brain damage necessary to kill the living dead.
I'm guessing you meant in the bathroom. Only thing that looked like a weapon. I didn't have a book there... ;)

4. At the end of chapter 5, Dave gives Sarah a weapon just before they are leaving their apartment to pay a little visit to Jack and Amanda's apartment. Let's see a picture of yours (same type of item).
What can I say? I'm being energy conscious. It's an LED flashlight. They don't come that big. :)

5. How do you feel about the book up to this point? Any thoughts you want to share?

Well, I wasn't liking the bickering the two were doing toward each other, but it was nice to see them start to appreciate one another and actually listen. I know that was the point so I guess it was successful. As far as the zombies go? Well, it's only a start...

Btw, the pups weren't really wanting to do picture taking... Here is an outtake:
Photobomb! :)

1. In a moment of anger, Atticus reveals something about himself that he usually keeps very secret, for his own benefit. Has something similar ever happened to you? Have you ever spilled a closely guarded secret in a moment of excitement or anger or absent-mindedness?

Never! I've always been a mermaid, it's just that... oh crap...

2. Atticus tells Mrs. MacDonagh, "the universe is exactly the size that your soul can encompass. Some people live in extremely small worlds, and some live in a world of infinite possibility." Then he asks her what she is going to do with the new information she has discovered. What would you do if you found out that other beings were among us? Would you deny it or embrace it?

First, I love that quote. I'd like to think that I'd embrace it. I'd have questions though... lots of questions. Uh... wait... what are you trying to tell us??? :D

3. So far, Atticus has revealed a few of his powers and has even shared some power by putting bindings on Granuaile. What do you think has been his coolest or most helpful power so far?

I think drawing strength from the earth itself. He heals and is given his powers from that energy. Most useful power and I do believe one of the coolest. I'd so have those tats if I could do that. :)

4. Atticus gets pretty pissed when he finds out that Aenghus Óg is drawing power from the Earth and, in turn, killing it. That's when Atticus decides he must fight the old Fae for committing such a heinous offense. What is something you would fight for, even if it meant you might die trying?

The ones I love. :)

5. What did you think of the final showdown between Atticus and Aenghus Óg? Did it go down the way you expected? Was there anything about their battle that surprised you?

I didn't really expect anything because I didn't know how the gods/fae fought in this world. I was surprised that Laksha wasn't more involved. I also would have liked to know more about her powers in particular. I think I was also surprised that Bridget and Flidas were in on getting him to fight. However, it also made a lot of sense given who and what they were.

6. What was your favorite/least favorite part of Hounded? Who was your favorite/least favorite character?

Least fave characters were, of course, the witches. I didn't really feel that the witches were being coerced but were acting on their own selfish impulses. Not to say that Aenghus was fine with me, but you expected him to be a total jerk. :)

My fave parts were Oberon. I also had a tiny bit of a problem with him as well. He read too human than hound to me, but at the same time, I wouldn't change anything because it was too entertaining. :D

7. What do you think is coming up next for Atticus? Will you continue reading this series, and if so, what do you hope to see happen in the next book?

Hm... I'd like to see more adventures. :) More Oberon *gives sausage*. Love more of the widow. She just rocks. And yes, I do have the next 2 on my tbr so I will be continuing reading this series. :D

This weeks questions hosted by In the Closet with a Bibliophile

1. Just after Atticus is shot, Oberon has to "ninja" his way out of the shop and into Hal's Beamer (with the icky air freshener). Have you ever been in a situation where you had to "ninja" your way out and try not to be discovered? If so, what happened?

Not that I can think of or chose to remember. LOL I know if I tried to "ninja" my way in or out of anything I'd trip. *sigh* Yes, I'm coordinated like that. :)

2. Atticus's main goal through a large portion of the book is not only protecting Oberon, but also protecting the sword. You are now living in a paranormal world and you need a weapon! What weapon do you choose and what can it do?

My first choice of weapon would be a smexy were or vampire. Oh wait... weapon.. not eye candy! Hm.. perhaps a sword. However, I don't know how to use said sword, so I'll probably end up cutting off my own fingers. Perhaps my best bet is to find a way to avoid true fighting and run! Hey, no shame in staying alive. :D

3. To recharge and heal after being shot, Atticus sleeps naked, tattoos to the earth, in a patch of grass near the Civic Center in downtown Scottsdale. Where is the weirdest place you have ever slept?

Probably in a van near a field of corn. Sadly, not very interesting at all. There was no room at the inn so to speak so I slept there with my dog. Not very comfortable.

4. We finally find out some very interesting information about Granuaile and I don't know about you, but I certainly wasn't expecting to find that she's sharing her head with someone else. What about you, did you expect anything along those lines? If not, what were you expecting concerning Granuaile?

I knew she knew more than what she was saying. In fact Atticus suspected she was more than human. I didn't suspect her sharing a body, but then I wasn't suspecting much. I was just letting it unfold before me.

5. Laksha is a witch, a truly evil one at that for many of the things she's done in the past. However, she's supposedly seen the error of her ways. Do you think she really has? Would you be willing to trust her? Do you think Atticus is smart to have decided to trust her to help him with the "other" witches?

Has she seen the error of her ways? I think there is good reason for her playing nice right now. No, I would not be too willing to trust her at lest completely. I would trust that her goals are true and in that (as long as they coincide) I would trust her doing her part. Since Atticus's goals are the same (or close to it) he can trust that she will help with the other witches, but always know that there can and most likely is something more "up her sleeve" so to speak.

This weeks questions from Smash Attack Reads!

1. I love Leif Helgarson, Viking Vampire, Esq. I have to say that combo makes a pretty cool attorney. If you could have a paranormal/mythical beastie (or combo) covering your tuckus in court, what would you choose and why?

I would definitely take Leif. Beta male in his clan which means he is second in charge. Which also means that no human could EVER make him flinch. Good thing to have around in court and in other areas of law in which they woud try to bully you.

2. The police show up to question Atticus about his Irish Wolfhound, Oberon. If you could own any dog breed, what would it be and why? (P.S. Oberon is going on my list of favorite sidekicks!)

I have actually wanted a Irish Wolfhound. If it wasn't for the short lifespan and the massive hip and elbow problems they have, I would have gotten one by now. There was one in our animal shelter. I almost took him, but couldn't because my house is full. A rescue group got him.

My dobe is a pressie from my parents. I adore dobes! He's my first. Clowns and they are so sweet. Not for the unexperienced dog owner, however.

3. Malina Sokolowski and the other Sisters of the Three Auroras coven have my antennae up. What is your opinion of them?

Tricky! Yep... summed it up in one word. :D

4. Brighid, goddess of poetry, fire and the forge, gave Atticus the power of Cold Iron, which can be used to fight off that nasty lilttle hellspawn. If you could wield one magical power, what would it be and why?

Oh that is a hard question. I'm not sure what is all up for grabs. Hm... I like his magical eye. Reveals what is hidden and I like that idea. I also like the idea of camouflage. Oh and the magical hair! Never have a bad hair day. I think I need more time to explore this world to decide. LOL

5. The cops show up at Atticus’ shop to search for poor Oberon, who remains magically hidden throughout the ordeal. What is the one thing you would do if you could remain hidden from sight? I want to hear some good answers for this one!

I don't know. I know... not a good answer. I don't really like being voyeuristic. Plus, knowing me, it wouldn't work anyway. I'd giggle or cough or something to give me away. However, I would probably find out what others were saying behind my back. Sometimes, though... it's so much better to not know for certain and live in ignorance. LOL

Btw, ending this week on chpt 15 was so mean! Just sayin' ;) LOL

Hounded Read-A-Long Chpts. 6-10

Sign up deets HERE
This weeks questions come from On a Book Bender:

1. In Chapter 6, Atticus goes hunting with Oberon and Flidais. What was supposed to be a fun hunting trip turned rather disastrous. Were you expecting something like this to happen or did it catch you by surprise? Have you ever had something that should have been fun turn disastrous or nearly disastrous?

Well, the gods/fae tend to be fickle, so I wasn't completely caught off guard. Plus, you knew something was going on the minute Atticus changed into a wolfhound and sensed something amiss. And sure... I've had things ruin a fun trip. Usually it's an illness. :P

2. We are only briefly introduced to the witches (or, a witch) in chapter 7. What are your first impressions? How much would you trust the witches? Why?

I wouldn't trust the witches in Atticus's world. Too much power and it is too easy for them to become corrupt from that power. I think I would err on caution's side as Atticus does.

3. Oberon says, “With dogs you just go up and smell their asses and you know where you stand. It’s so much easier. Why can’t humans do that?” Do you ever wish there was an easier way to find out where you stand with someone (besides Oberon’s suggestion, of course)? In what cases would it be easier or better to hide your true feelings?

Hell yes. Oh.. I mean sure. LOL I think people tend to complicate the simple and simplify the complicated way too much. I am guilty of that as well. In what cases? I think when you know the other person is up to something and is trying to find a way to make life more difficult for you. That might in fact be the reason we can't just go up to someone's butt and sniff. Um... can I say ew? :D

4. Chapter 9 makes Atticus’ life much more difficult: the witches are in some way working with Aeghus Og, Bres comes after Atticus, and more trouble appears at the end of the chapter. Have you made sense of what has happened thus far? Any predictions for what might happen?

Sense as in that Aeghus Og wants to make Atticus's life difficult or non-existant. Don't know why yet Aeghus wants the sword. No predictions right now.

5. Atticus has had plenty of time to cultivate attitudes and ethics that would allow him to live a very long time. What do you think it is about Atticus that has allowed him to live for as long as he has?

Caution and a quick wit. I think he also has a finely tuned BS meter. I think that helps when dealing with the supernatural and the normal. :D

Hope you are having fun. The next set of questions will be from Smash Attack Reads

Hounded Read-A-Long Chpts. 1-5

Sign up and information HERE

1. Kevin Hearne had the most perfect beginning for this book: "There are many perks to living for twenty-one centuries, and formost among them is bearing witness to the rare birth of genius." If you were to live for centuries what do you think you would be excited to see?

I would have loved to have been there when what are mysteries to us were made. The pyramids, hearing philosophy being discovered and taught. Thoughts and inventions long lost to us because of the destruction of civilizations we never knew about. Pretty cool stuff. And yet... I would still crave anything new. I mean I can see that your perspective would (hopefully) be widened. Most of your blinders would have come off and you could see all people as having the same struggle over and over. I guess I'd be excited as Atticus was excited about anything new or novel. My guess is that is rare after a few centuries. :)

2. In the 2nd chapter we learn about the amulet and its protection powers! Do you think having met the Morrigan and heard about Aenghus Og that it will be enough to protect Atticus? I mean the Morrigan has a point about hot chicks coming after him and his defenses might be down! He is very male!

No, I don't think it is enough and neither did Atticus. He did think that it would take some of their advantage away and I think he was counting on their laziness for protection more than the amulet. However, poor guy... having to have no defenses against so many hot chicks... LOL

3. The literary world's coolest dog is introduced in this chapter! Did you love Oberon immediately? Show me a picture or describe the type of animal you would love to have as a talking companion! (Cat, Dog, Mouse, Sloth, Horse---what is your pick--pictures please)?

I love Irish Wolfhounds!! In fact, I've wanted one. :D So who do I want as a talking companion?
Those that follow this blog have already been introduced to him (especially in this post) and already know he sorta talks to me. He is quite proficient in communicating without words, so I'd be curious as to the convos we'd have if he had words. I mean other than what smexy female dog he just saw... or what is for dinner... ;D

4. In this chapter Flidais asked Atticus what his name is and then precedes to ask if anyone actually believes he is Greek? He says nobody pays attention to names here. Do you know what your name means and where it comes from? Or do you have a name you wish had? Let's talk names!

I know that my first name means honey bee. I tell everyone it is because I'm just so sweet! *cough* I also know the origins of my last name and what it means. However, I don't look like anyone else who shares my last name in my family. ;) What name do I wish I had? I have no idea. I mean would they know I was a sweet girl otherwise? *large cough* Excuse me...

5. We learn about Atticus' lawyers in this chapter, a rather unique combo! Without jumping ahead, would you hire a lawyer combination of two supernaturals who on the surface would appear to be natural enemies or at the very least two very Alpha attitudes? What would be the positives and negatives of that decision.

I would if I had the means and the need! They may be enemies but it also seems that right now they are using their gifts for a mutual benefit. So, I'd say the positive would be that you would have very different perspectives on a paranormal problem. The negative is that they would want you to follow their advice no matter what you thought. LOL

Thanks Felicia for those questions! If you are following along, the next set of questions for this book is scheduled for the 9th and this set is hosted at On a Book Bender!
