Perfect for the fans of Shatter Me who are desperately awaiting the release of Unravel Me, this novella-length digital original will bridge the gap between these two novels from the perspective of the villain we all love to hate, Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.
In Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me, Juliette escaped from The Reestablishment by seducing Warner—and then putting a bullet in his shoulder. But as she’ll learn in Destroy Me, Warner is not that easy to get rid of...
Back at the base and recovering from his near-fatal wound, Warner must do everything in his power to keep his soldiers in check and suppress any mention of a rebellion in the sector. Still as obsessed with Juliette as ever, his first priority is to find her, bring her back, and dispose of Adam and Kenji, the two traitors who helped her escape. But when Warner’s father, The Supreme Commander of The Reestablishment, arrives to correct his son’s mistakes, it’s clear that he has much different plans for Juliette. Plans Warner simply cannot allow.
My thoughts:
I've been wanting to do a little catching up so I decided to get back into this series since my library is carrying the next audiobook. I had heard to also pick up the novellas as well and I was happy to see my library also carried this novella.
This is where we get to know Warner. It had been a while since I read Shatter Me so it took me a bit to remember which one Warner was but it quickly came back. In this one, I must warn you, the guy you hated in the first one becomes human. He becomes human through Juliette's diary and he falls through her emotions which triggers his empathy. This may spell trouble for those that hate love triangles, but nothing has happened yet and this is just a look into Warner and how his motives change.
I do recommend this short to go with the rest of the series since I have a feeling Warner is going to play a bigger part than we thought. I am curious to see where it goes next. I give this novella 4 stars.
📖
I have book 1 but I still need to read it
ReplyDeleteI'm slow in the series but it seems to capture my interest easily.
DeleteI still need to start this series! I'm so behind. :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean! Btw, glad to see you around! :D
DeleteI loved this and hated it. I wanted Warren to be the villain and then after reading this I fell in love with him LOL! It was such a great addiction and a must for the series I think.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I have a feeling I'm going to feel the same.
DeleteI read the first book quite sometime ago. But, I do remember not caring for it. It has gotten so much hype since then, I feel like I'm missing out. I'll think about picking this up again.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy it on audio. Might make a difference? The novellas are not on audio that I can find, however.
DeleteI always head amazing things about this series. I really need to see if my library has a copy of them.
ReplyDeleteOh go audio! :D
DeleteI wasn't a huge fan of the first book so I stopped there but it's a favorite series for many of my friends.
ReplyDeleteFor What It's Worth
I tried it on audio and found myself enjoying it. Of course this one isn't on audio, but it might make a difference with the main books.
DeleteI read the three main books but I didn't read this novella. Your theory is correct. And the monster becomes a bigger player, and a new version of him is revealed. Not my favorite series but they were fun reads. :-)

I kept hearing to read it and I'm glad I did. Not my fave either, but still very enjoyable.
DeleteI've avoided this series mainly due to dystopia fatigue but I'm glad that are enjoying it. I know the author announced that there'll be three new books added to the series.
ReplyDeleteAh... it is very dystopian so you may want to put it off for a bit longer. I heard the same.
DeleteI read the three books, but for some reason I hadn't read this novella yet! It does sound so good. I love when we get some more insight into a character and this sounds like it did just that. Can't wait to hear what you think of the rest of these books :)
ReplyDeleteIt seems to round out the last book with the next. Perhaps not necessary but it does make sense. :)
DeleteWow... Should I know this series? Have you reviewed the first one? Sounds intriguing. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYes. I did enjoy it. I'm finding audio with this series is really a help.
Deletethat is prob why i dont read novellas in series lol it will make me want more and prob change opinion on characters
ReplyDeleteI don't always read the novellas but when it gives more clarity to a series I usually try to pick it up. :)
DeleteMaybe one day
ReplyDelete...on audio! :D
DeleteI heard that from several people and I was worried going in. I think there is something to audio that changes it. I may be wrong since this novella is the only one I read and not listened to thus far.
ReplyDeleteI boycott all novellas on principle but was so curious about the complete 180 degree turn that Warner's character does that I did read this. Look forward to seeing what you think of the rest. The final book was a disappointment to me but overall these books were fun.

I don't always gravitate toward them, but it sounded like this one helped the story. That is sad to hear about the last book. :(
DeleteI've read through series before going back for the novellas. Sounds like this novella would have made things even more interesting by making a character more likeable. For some reason, I never got around to starting this series.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like most of the novellas help in this book but I'm not sure if I'll read them all (I guess that depends on the library!).
DeleteIt is the first I am hearing of this series. Not sure if it is for me though. Glad you are enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteIt may not be for you. It is very YA.
DeleteI Enjoyed this series, in fact it is one of the few in which I read all of the novellas.
ReplyDeleteHm... looks like I may have to try to seek out all the novellas. *looks in library's direction...*
DeleteThe 1st book was one of my most anticipated when it came out. I even have it. But have I read it? Noooo. I should binge the series at some point, including novellas. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL! I know what you mean. So many shineys around! :D
DeleteI have seen the series reviewed so many times but for some reason I have not wanted to read it. Kinda different to start liking the villain after hating him. Glad you are enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteI have read books that the villain changes in the series. For some reason that always makes me more curious. :)
DeleteFirst time for me too! been busy getting organised with life I missed a lot of good books. Great review
ReplyDeleteI know! So many books I've missed as well.
DeleteI've never read any of these books, but I'm glad you enjoyed the novella. Sometimes they aren't all that great!

I agree. Even the good ones sometime bother me as I wish it was just a part of the main series.
DeleteI am one of the only people on the Earth who hasn't read this series! I might even own it if I hunt in my stacks of physical books. I may have to give it a try to see if I fall on one side or the other between love it or hate it. Good writing sounds worth it :) Thanks for the reminder - and good review of a novella :) I love duplicitous characters (is that the right $10 word? *shrug*)
ReplyDeleteNope. I'm still at the beginning of the series myself. If your library has it, you might try it on audio. I have a feeling that is why I like it so much.
Delete*hands over $10*
I haven't read this author but now I'm intrigued.
ReplyDeleteIt is very YA so keep that in mind.
DeleteIt's been a long time since I read the series but I enjoyed it so much. And this novella was such an eye-opener.
ReplyDeleteOh so glad to hear you enjoyed it. I'm liking it on audio.
DeleteI do enjoy novellas. And this one sounds like a nice addition to the series. :)
ReplyDeleteIt also looks like I may have to find more of these in the library to go with the series! :)
DeleteI have not yet read this series, but I have heard it gets better with each book. I'm glad you enjoyed this one.
ReplyDeleteOh good to know! Makes sense since she is still growing into her character.
DeleteMake sure it is on audio. I have a feeling you won't like it in book format.
