In the real world, when you vanish into thin air for a week, people tend to notice.

After his unexpected journey into the lands of the fey, Ethan Chase just wants to get back to normal. Well, as "normal" as you can be when you see faeries every day of your life. Suddenly the former loner with the bad reputation has someone to try for-his girlfriend, Kenzie. Never mind that he's forbidden to see her again.

But when your name is Ethan Chase and your sister is one of the most powerful faeries in the Nevernever, "normal" simply isn't to be. For Ethan's nephew, Keirran, is missing, and may be on the verge of doing something unthinkable in the name of saving his own love. Something that will fracture the human and faery worlds forever, and give rise to the dangerous fey known as the Forgotten. As Ethan's and Keirran's fates entwine and Keirran slips further into darkness, Ethan's next choice may decide the fate of them all.
My thoughts:
The book begins where the last one, The Lost Prince, ended. We are seeing Ethan trying to adjust to what has changed in his life, namely Kenzie. He is determined to be the person she sees in him. Of course with Kagawa you know that this won't last and there would be a reason for them to be pulled back in faerie. Again, it is Keirran who needs help and Ethan decides to be the one there for his nephew who is trying to change the fate of the one he loves. Nothing is easy and one bad decision leads to another and...

Yep, like that. This would upset me more if the adventure before that ending wasn't so good. I enjoyed the action, the interaction between characters and the romance of Ethan and Kenzie. I'm also glad there were brief appearances with other well known characters in this world and I hope there is more of that in the next book. Razor is in this one again too and I'm happy to be reunited with that little gremlin. As for what happens next? I don't know but I know I want to know now! I mean is it too hard to give us a 1000+ book once in a while? ;) Seriously, it's cruel to leave us hanging like that. :) Still, addicted as we are, we will wait and gobble up the next installment when it comes.

I give this book 4 stars and I'm guessing you now know I want the next one immediately. I'm sure it is only a guess... ;)

  1. This sounds so thrilling, I'd pick it up today if not for the cliffhanger! Why on earth do authors DO that? As it is, I'll probably wait for the next one to come out and then read them both. I just can't add another cliffhanger to my long list of books that made me suffer.
    Great review.

  3. I'm not a huge fan of Kagawa's work, but this spin-off series definitely seems to be much stronger and I'm glad you've been enjoying it so much. Fantastic review, Melissa!

  4. I just finished this one and liked it--but didn't love it. Keirran just annoyed the crap out of me. Ethan and Kenzie and Razor were great -- love them! But I could do without Keirran and his lady love.

  5. Despite your glowing review and the fact that I'm loving the cover and the sound of Razor alas I'm still not convinced this is one for me. Perhaps one I'd pick up at the library but not a book I'd buy.

    1. I would try the Iron Fae series first. Plus it is the offshoot series from that one.

  6. I've heard this one has a whopper of an ending Melissa, but everyone seems to love the story right up till that point! I really enjoyed book one, so I'm excited to pick this one up, though of course I'm hugely wary of the ending. Might be better for my stress level to wait until book 3 is out! Lovely review:):)

  13. I enjoyed this one much more than The Lost Prince. Ethan's attitude in that one got to me. He's much happier in this one. Plus the addition of certain "friends" did make it more enjoyable. Can't lie about that. But man, she didn't used to give us cliffies did she?? I want that next book NOW!

  14. I'm convinced Kagawa keeps up these cliffies to torture her readers. And somehow, I never learn, and keep coming back for more. Glad you enjoyed it despite desperately needing the next book. I feel your pain! Great review :-)

  15. Great to read your thoughts on this one. I really liked The Lost Prince, but haven't picked up a copy of its sequel yet. Happy to hear that Razor is coming back. He's such a cute little guy, wouldn't want to miss him!
