Binge Post: Netflix

As most of you, I've been overwhelmed, but also taken the time to learn what is going on. In the middle of that I need to take a break to recharge and that is also why I've been trying to make more positive posts like this lately. I'm a bit scattered so my entertainment reading has been a bit sporadic. Thankfully I've been able to binge a bit on Netflix shows. I've always felt behind but I'm catching up to all you cool kids. 😎

In the past I talked about Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Well, the one that started it all was Daredevil. There are 2 seasons there right now. For a good Catholic boy with a strong moral compass, I'd have to say this one was surprisingly the bloodiest and darkest of the three. Yep, a few times I had to close my eyes or look away. So, do be aware of that.

Season 2

I also finally watched all of Penny Dreadful
I really enjoyed this one and I really liked the dark take on all the creatures we are used to seeing. Then the ending episode came. At first I thought it was an apt ending, but the more I thought about it, it was horrible and left WAY too many secondary stories hanging. It was cancelled and they just threw together an ending. So the more I thought about it, the more I hated that ending episode. Too bad, because I could really see this take off in so many directions.

  1. I heard and read that Penny Dreadful wasn't canceled at all, that it was just the end they wanted and they hadn't planed for more. They didn't want to do more.

    1. From what I read it was a combo of both. The producer knew it wouldn't be a long running series and the last season had dismal ratings from what they thought they would get.

  2. Penny Dreadful I already know is too scary for me. The hubs watched 3/4ths of it, and said that it was good but not for me. I'm a wuss. I watched random episodes of Daredevil but only watched Jessica Jones all the way through. I think that was my favorite. Luke Cage is kickass too!

    1. Loved Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. They are getting together with the Punisher and Daredevil for another Netflix series! :D

    1. It was a mix for me, but hated the ending the more I thought about it. :) So be warned of that. :)

  4. I agree! UGH. If you are going to end it then do a good job of it. :(

  5. I have heard good things about Daredevil but never started it. I did watch some episodes of Jessica Jones but it felt like it was slow so I stopped. Oh and that stinks that the other show was cancelled and the last episode wasn't satisfying. I had that happen to a show I loved.

    1. Yea, I hate it when that happens. I think Jessica Jones does pick up as you go along and you find out why the main baddie IS the main baddie. :)

  6. I binged watched the first season of Daredevil and I enjoyed it. A nice comparison between Murdock and Fisk. I'm looking forward to watching season 2. It's definitely Marvel's darkest show. I still need to catch up on Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. I only saw the first season of Penny Dreadful, but it didn't grab me as I had hoped. Still pretty cool to see Dorian Gray and Frankenstein in a new light.

    1. If you liked the comparison of Fisk and Murdock, then you will love the juxtaposition of the Punisher and Daredevil. Penny Dreadful took me a few eps to get into it but it did grab me once I got into it.

  7. I am super into The Magicians right now. I loved the book series by Lev Grossman. I think the first season is on Netflix. Check it out. The books were so incredibly awesome. The series is changing it up some but it is still wonderful.

    1. I'm in the middle of the Magicians right now. :) I haven't read the books so I'm very curious about what was changed.

  8. Oh, good to know about Daredevil because I like the older movie and wouldn't have realized the TV show was darker.

I'm watching through Hunted right now and Timeless.

    1. A lot darker. :)

I haven't seen Hunted and Timeless yet. :)

  10. I haven't watched either of these so thanks for putting them on my radar, Melissa!!

  11. If there is one show I'm waiting for, it's the new Punisher series. He's also been a character I've found interesting and after Bernthal's performance in the most reason season of Daredevil, I absolutely can't wait.

    1. I agree. Looks like Iron Fist will join the group as well.

  12. It was definitely dark, I wasn't as enamored of Fisk as some were but they're well done. Liked elektra in S2. Have you heard about Iron fist in MArch? That's another one, then they all get together for The defenders. I liked JJ and Cage too (although Cage wasn't quite as good).

    1. I wasn't sure about Fisk either, but ended up hating him in a good way. :) Elektra is one I'd love to know more about. Iron Fist's side kick (I don't know her name) is one I'm curious about since she looks kick @ss. I did like Cage, but it took me a bit to get into it.

  13. I LOVED Daredevil season 1 but then for some reason I never started season 2 so I should fix that :) I also still need to catch up with both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage so I still have some work to do :) I heard Penny Dreadful was really great, but I'm sorry to hear about that ending, that's a pity!

    1. If you liked S1, then I think you'll love S2. I thought it was better than the first. JJ and LC come after DD first season if you want to do them in order.

Yea, the ending of PD was not good. :(

  14. I haven't gotten in to Daredevil, because it was a time issue. I watched J J because her storyline was shorter. but haven't gotten time to watch Luke Cage yet

    1. DD really is first in the series but it is a long storyline. Had to do LC after JJ because the timeline demanded it. AND I rarely do those things in order. :)

  15. I loved Jessica Jones as well and added Lucas Cage to my list yesterday. I binge watched the OJ Simpson series last week. Only took two days. I loved Penny Dreadful! I hated the ending but it sort of was apt for what was happening in the story line. I would have kept watching though if they had continued. Have you watched Stranger Things? So good! I hope you find some more good ones. Heaven knows we all need to escape what's going on right now!

    1. For some reason I'm not interested in the OJ one. Add DD to that list as it goes along with JJ and LC. I thought the same way about the ending of PD but the more I thought about it, the more I hated it. LOL I've been doing it for escape as well. My brain just hasn't been on reading lately and that makes me sad. :(

  16. Whist Penny Dreadful has been available on SKY here in England for a while now, it has only recently become available on the network we have. I keep meaning to watch but somehow can't bring myself to watch it alone and it isn't Mr T's cup of tea. :-(

    1. It is pretty dark so it may not be for you. It is also listed as horror. I don't mind monster movies in horror (yes, I know I'm weird). :)

  17. I've only watched one Jessica Jones ep and then I stopped to wait for my husband and never got back to it.

Daredevil was too dark - I mean that literally - I couldn't see anything lol but I want to try Luke Cage.

We binged Stranger Things and 1/2 of Santa Clarita Diet this past weekend and it was so much fun to get lost in a series again.

    1. I think you'll end up liking JJ and try that one before LC. DD just needs to have your contrast adjusted. LOL

Loved Stranger Things and I'll probably do one on it as well. Just started SCD.

  18. I've been on the fence about watching Penny Dreadful. My mom loved it and tell me to watch it. I'm kind of curious about the ending now, though.

  19. I really enjoyed this series too. I will admit that I liked Jessica Jones and Luke Cage a little bit more. DH watched Penny Dreadful. He liked it, but hated the ending.

I also liked JJ and LC a bit more but the second season of DD was my fave of the series. I'm hoping for even more.
