Car mechanic and sometime shapeshifter Mercy Thompson has learned, the hard way, why her race was almost exterminated. Briggs started this book a second after the last book left us. I am glad as I didn't quite buy the ending of Iron Kissed. To avoid spoilage I will not say what it was specifically but the problem encountered in the last book would have lasting repercussions. I'm glad that this was explored a bit more. I also could not love Adam more with how he handled Mercy.
No matter what is going on with Mercy, she always finds a way to continue on and do her best and help those that need helping. This is what I love about this character and this trait is in abundance in this story.
My only complaint might be the vampires. I say might as I don't know where this is exactly heading but I suspect we will find out more as the series progresses. Marsilia is one bad and devious vampire and a great potential big bad for Mercy and company but her deviousness and evilness just seemed to fizzle out in the end of the book. However, I have learned that it may be a ruse for more deviousness later in the series.
I give this book 4 stars. Another great addition to the series. Those that love kid characters will fall for Chad. He is one adorable and brave kid. I'd love to see more of him in the coming books. I recommend this series to those that enjoy UF.

DeleteI adore Stefan though I have a hard time seeing that he's got something for Mercy. I honestly don't see it but many claim there is some tension there. You're about to read my favorite book of this series so far, Silver Borne. I hope you like it just as much as I did.

DeleteI am having a hard time recalling this one. I has been three years since I read this one. I remember liking this one better because the two before were a bit dark. I need to read the last two books in this series, I am behind.

ReplyDeleteOh yes, she leaves us in a cruel place at the end of book 3 doesn't she? Definitely one of those times I was REALLY glad I had the next book on hand. I loved how Adam handled everything in this one as well, the two of them are all-time favorites:)

ReplyDeleteI love this series. Still not the biggest fans of the vampires (we probably could have done without them, for many of the stories) but *shrugs*
ReplyDeleteI definitely might have to consider a reread of this series sometime soon because I only have a scant few UF series that I am loving right now. the generation V series by M.L. Brennan, the Others series by Anne Bishop and of course the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. But then maybe I should read the Kate Daniels series. Yeah I think I'll give that one a shot I hear such good things. I am so glad there is a new PBriggs coming out soon Dead Heat!
