Tell Me Something Tuesday: Blogger Burnout

Tell Me Something Tuesday, a meme started by CambriaHebert, but now hosted on Rainy Day Ramblings. It is a chance to get to know your fellow bloggers by sharing fun stuff, discussions and more. Grab the question and post your answer on your blog and link up at Rainy Day Ramblings! Have fun!

This weeks question:

What do you do when you are feeling blogger burnout?

Actually this is a question I would really like to know how people handle it. Usually I either push through it or I just take a few days off of blogging. Getting posts ready ahead of time really help with this. Doing easy memes help. It fills up the page with things you don't mind talking about to others and it doesn't take a lot of energy. Usually they are fun. Trying a genre you don't usually read. Mostly I think that just doing something else helps the most. Giving yourself a break or just get a different perspective.

I also have been doing less in terms of accepting reviews. I'm TRYING to slow things down here a bit, but a author you want to help or a good book comes along... *sigh* Perhaps I'm not the one to suggest anything... LOL

So what do you do when you are feeling blogger burnout?

  1. I'm in your boat, I keep trying to slow things down, but then tours and other shiny things get in the way of blissful freedom and lack of obligation. Usually I just take a break, at least two days a week, sometimes three alternating, if I have a crazy work week. I try to catch up when I get back, but it's tough sometimes!

    1. I know! I'm like... I'm going to do ___ and then... *ooh! shiny!* Darn shiny things... :)

  2. I'm right there with you. I love my blog and don't want to stop doing it but I'm burned out right now, too. Like you, I'm trying to slow down a bit, accept fewer books to review and try to get ahead of the game (that last bit isn't working. I'm only pre-scheduled through tomorrow. Oops.). I think I'm going to just have to power through it!

  3. I've taken to posting less frequently so I don't feel the pressure of blogger burnout. I think it's important to get back on track with reading, not always with the intent of reviewing a book and posting that review on the blog. Just...reconnecting with a love of reading and I take lots of breaks and just watch movies and have fun in other ways too. Great post, Melissa!

    1. I'm doing that too. I try to get the week planned, but if it doesn't go that way, I'm just letting it go. :) Haven't done that this month... yet. :)

  4. This is such a great question, I've been in a slump lately and seems like every time I go into one, it takes me that much longer to get myself out. Taking a break from blogging always helps, and I'm the type of blogger who has weeks of posts already done–I just have to actually format them the night before I post–I don't have to write them. This takes a little of the pressure of, and allows me to take a week off from the blog without actually missing any posts:)

Also, watching TV is always a win for me. Just doing something not book-related is helpful!

    1. I do try to have as much done ahead of time as well. I haven't done the week off yet, I might have to try it soon. :)

I'm starting to do the tv thing a bit more. Watching on-line anyway. Nice to just sit back and vege.

  5. I don't think I have that many period like that. And maybe it's easier because we're two, even if Vanessa doesn't post a lot. But otherwise I think I slow down a little bit. But like you I have posts done, because as I translate I like it when it's done early. But it's something new.

  6. I take a break. And I have slowed down on my reading a lot, but I still feel sometimes that is not enough. I don't want to stop blogging cause I love it, I'm really just tired of reading books that all sound the same...know what I mean.

    1. I do know what you mean. I think that is why I do like to read outside of the genre I usually review here. I used to do that all the time before I reviewed books. :)

  7. Always an interesting topic. I feel burnt out more lately because of work and school taking up a lot of time/energy. I'm trying to schedule more ahead of time so I don't have to worry about doing posts as quick. Other than that, I just try and do other things to get back in the groove.

    1. I don't know where you find the time. Working and going to school would usually burned me out of fun reading. I usually devoured books in the summer at that time. Glad you aren't too affected by it.

  8. I unplug for a weekend and recharge my batteries, I find this helps..plus I am selective about the books I take on.

    1. I've been doing that as well. It did help when I started doing that.

  9. I had a really rough time this summer after I came back from my vacation. I went through a month of reading nothing but MM fiction, which doesn't work so well with my blog, so I didn't review much. I actually didn't do much of anything. Luckily, managed to push through and now I'm totally into blogging again, but I needed that time for myself.

    1. Hm... I review anything I read here, so I guess I don't have to worry about that. I need a vacay. :)

  10. I try to write the review right after the book. Only so I don't get the next book mixed up in the one I'm reviewing. That may be just me though... :)

  11. Right now I am like prescheduled for 2 months. But I just...*knock on wood'* have not burned out. I take it easy. I review light

  12. I'm just going wherever my reading/blogging mood takes me these days and not worrying or letting guilt take over.

I rarely accept reviews and I don't review everything I read anymore and that helps a lot.

If I need to take a week off from posting then I do.

That was really hard for me to do at first since I used to post almost every day but it's either relax or quit so I opted for the former.

  13. I think I'm just burnt out in general. It's not only blogger burnout, but just feeling tired and cranky and irritable about everything.
But I think just trying to step back a bit helps. I don't really accept many books for review, but I do read everything that comes to me as a potential client and that tends to get overwhelming. I find some AMAZING books that way that I wouldn't have read otherwise. I do find a lot of bad ones too, but I don't finish those and just say no thank you.

  14. I've backed off on signing up for book tours or reviews on a schedule too. I think that really helps when there is less pressure.

  15. Great post Melissa, and I do feel the pressure lately. I just have to let it go. Blogging is not a job, and I am not obligated to post a review every day. Some days, they just don't flow and I do other stuff. I would love to post something each day, but it is just not doable.
Still, reviewing books because I am asked to, is also something I don't like to do, reading on demand. I really try to say no, but well, I am kind of flattered when asked about it.
