Throwback Thursday: Geekomancy

Meme hosted by Melissa My World in Words and Pages. It's about books that are already on the shelves and are waiting to be read. Go to her website to join in!

My submission this week:

Geekomancy
by Michael R. Underwood
Clerks meets Buffy the Vampire the Slayer in this original urban fantasy eBook about Geekomancers—humans that derive supernatural powers from pop culture. Ree Reyes’s life was easier when all she had to worry about was scraping together tips from her gig as a barista and comicshop slave to pursue her ambitions as a screenwriter.
When a scruffy-looking guy storms into the shop looking for a comic like his life depends on it, Ree writes it off as just another day in the land of the geeks. Until a gigantic “BOOM!” echoes from the alley a minute later, and Ree follows the rabbit hole down into her town’s magical flip-side. Here, astral cowboy hackers fight trolls, rubber-suited werewolves, and elegant Gothic Lolita witches while wielding nostalgia-powered props.
Ree joins Eastwood (aka Scruffy Guy), investigating a mysterious string of teen suicides as she tries to recover from her own drag-your-heart-through-jagged-glass breakup. But as she digs deeper, Ree discovers Eastwood may not be the knight-in-cardboard armor she thought. Will Ree be able to stop the suicides, save Eastwood from himself, and somehow keep her job?
I got this one a while back when it was free. Can't wait to dive in.
So, what is on your list this week?

  1. Really? You want to know what I've got to read this week. I'm already in the hole but here goes, The Elephant of Surprises by Brent Hartinger, The Sweetest Dark, Eternity Cure by Ms. Kagawa, and In the Shadow of Blackbirds. But I am in the middle of The Collector and I'm loving it, so I don't want to put it down! Of course, none of those are throwbacks, sorry. I just have a heavy month of reading. My fault of course.

And it's late and I should be sleeping!

  2. You mean there's a book called Geekomancy out there and I didn't write it?! As Charley Davidson would surely point out, that sucks more ass than liposuction! I'm adding this to my tbr because it sounds really great.

  5. Love those free books Melissa! I got Knight by Kristen Ashley (her books are so over the top and addicting) for $.99 a while back but it's just been sitting on my kindle waiting for me. I need to make time for it:)

  7. Geekomancers aka humans that derive supernatural powers from pop culture? Really? I'm sorry but I can't help but think that this genre is becoming too silly.

    1. Silly is sometimes another word for creative. Sometimes it really works and I love it when that happens. Besides, I'm silly anyway. :D

  15. Oh wow, I'd never heard of this one before. It sounds awesome! It's only an e-book though? I need to get some type of e-reader ASAP. I keep missing all these awesome books because I don't have one and I hate reading on my computer screen.

  17. As you say silly can sometimes be creative and inventive and if nothing else is usually fun.
