Fairy Metal Thunder by JL Bryan: Review by AimeeKay

Ahoy from the decks of the Rusty Dagger! We will be leaving the Iron Seas soon, hopefully we are closer to catching that dastardly Narwal. Fortunately despite the small issue of the zombie apocalypse I was still able to get this great new read from Melissa. It's called Fairy Metal Thunder (Songs of Magic, #1) by JL Bryan.

amazon paperback $6.99
amazon kindle $0.99

Summery:

Jason, Erin, Mitch and Mildred ("Dred") are the Assorted Zebras, a teenage garage band in Wisconsin with no fans and no gigs. Then Jason sneaks into the fairy world and steals four magic-fueled musical instruments, the kind fairies use to enchant and trick humans. The new instruments make the band a huge overnight success, on their way to rock stardom. But the band members aren't exactly ready for fame, fortune, or the supernatural creatures sent by the fairies to track them down.

This YA paranormal series is appropriate for all ages. Good for fans of Labyrinth, Harry Potter, and Scooby-Doo.

No I did not lose control of my keyboard. That is a name. Specifically, that is the name of the elf who is sent to hunt down Jason, Erin, Mitch and Dred, and the fairy instruments that Jason stole. His unicorn's name is Buttercup. Those two things alone say everything. The effort the author put into just this one characters name is proof alone of the thought she put into the rest of this book.

This book was awesome! It's a great story combined with a unique wit. I found myself laughing out loud at some parts and I still giggle every time I even think of that name. The kids in the story are average everyday teens. (well at least before their music gets some magical intervention) They are far from perfect and it's hard to say if they don't kinda deserve some of the things that happen to them. I mean they did steal the instruments. But that is one of the things that makes this book so fun to read. I enjoyed the magical "bad guys" as much as I did the main human characters. I think this is a great start to what looks to be a really rocking series. (bad pun I know) As the summery from Amazon states this is a YA book, but it is appropriate for all ages, and I would really have to agree. If you're an adult don't be turned away by the YA label. If you are looking for a new series, or just something fun to read this fall, definitely pick this one up.

Til next time!
