Crave by Melissa Darnell

Description:
Savannah Colbert has never known why she's so hated by the kids of the Clann. Nor can she deny her instinct to get close to Clann golden boy Tristan Coleman. Especially when she recovers from a strange illness and the attraction becomes nearly irresistible. It's as if he's a magnet, pulling her gaze, her thoughts, even her dreams. Her family has warned her to have nothing to do with him, or any members of the Clann. But when Tristan is suddenly everywhere she goes, Savannah fears she's destined to fail.
For years, Tristan has been forbidden to even speak to Savannah Colbert. Then Savannah disappears from school for a week and comes back…different, and suddenly he can't stay away. Boys seem intoxicated just from looking at her. His own family becomes stricter than ever. And Tristan has to fight his own urge to protect her, to be near her no matter the consequences….
This was a book that inspired mixed feelings for me. On one hand, the writing was well done and it did keep my interest. On the other, it was filled with those YA clichés that often turn people off. For example there is the girl without confidence. There is also absentee parents. The crabby best friend (but she was extremely loyal and helpful). Well, I could go on, but it was filled with these except for the love triangle! :) I should also state that there was a obsession on both sides (Savannah and Tristan) but it didn't bother me since this was a paranormal and neither were human. I can attribute it to their paranormalness (it's a word!) rather than teenage hormones. :)

Well, I should also admit, besides the absentee parents, the rest of that didn't bother me too much. What did bother me was the secrets Savannah, her parents and the community was keeping. It was so frustrating that you knew trouble would be coming due to all the secrecy. You would think at least one person (or non-person?) would understand that this only hurts everyone and would try to put an end to it. But the town was built on it so I suppose that is why they kept everything from everyone. It was still annoying to me.

I will say that this book was well written in the world that they inhabit. The adventures kept me going and I did like the progression of Tristan and Savannah together. I'm just not completely happy with the choices they made. So, you see... I'm on the fence on this one. Looking around I can see why people either loved this book or hated it. So, keep that in mind when deciding if you want to read it or not. I do want to read the next book because... get ready for it... it was a cliffie! Yes, I do want to know what happens and if everyone stops being so darn secretive!

I give this book 3 stars. I think people who loved Twilight's obsessive romance will enjoy this book more than the others. So, you need to keep that in mind.
I received this book from the publisher and NetGalley and no compensation was given for my review.

  5. Hmmm I don't know if this one is for me. I don't think I can take all those cliches and another obsessive romance! Though I'm amazed there's not a love triangle. Great review :)

  6. Everyone has the same feedback about this book. Too many clichés. So much so it gets boring. Not sure it's a book for me. Wonderful review!

  9. Oh, no! Those cliches you mentioned are ones that will keep me away from this one. But glad to hear the writing's good. Perhaps the sequel will do away with these pesky cliches.

  11. I take comfort in the fact that despite all the YA cliches running rampant in this story, there's no love triangle. So that's something:) Sometimes the cliches really bother me, and sometimes for whatever reason they don't. I'm curious to see which way it'll be for me with this one:) Thanks Melissa!

  14. YA cliches are not something that I can read --- darn it! Glad that the writing was good and held your interest-- that is all that is important.

  15. Oh dear. I never like obessive romance so I don't think this is for me but the cover is pretty! Cliff-hangers are frustrating as well! :-)

  16. Ugh, I hate it when book characters are all keeping secrets from each other for no good reason, and you just know it's all going to explode because of it. Though it's nice to hear that there is no love triangle here. That's refreshing.

  18. @Happy Booker... You might enjoy it even more than I. It wasn't those parts that bothered me, but the secrecy!

    @Christy...LOL I know... I have to know! :)

    @Anachronist... I would have to insist. This isn't your kind of YA.

    @Melliane...I think if you didn't like Twilight, you probably won't like this one.

    @Belle... If you don't like those, then you may not like this one.

    @Giselle... It wasn't boring per se, but I can see how it annoyed many.

    @Aurian... If you don't like YA, then probably not for you. :)

    @Animewookie... LOL My my... :D

    @Stephanie... I hope it does away with the secrets!!

    @Nina... Hm... if you try it, I hope you like it. At least you know what to expect!

    @Jenny... LOL Nope, no triangle! I'm the same... sometimes they don't bother me at all.

    @Ashley... I know! I love the cover!

    @Savannah... LOL I loved her name. I even enjoyed her when she wasn't keeping secrets!

    @Felicia... It really did. It wasn't even close to a dnf.

    @Mel... I hate cliffies!!! Hate!

    @Smicha... I hate the secrets in this book too. There were reasons, but not good enough for me anyway.

    @Blodeuedd... It was "the change". ;) LOL

  19. Twilight had an obsessive romance in it? I don't remember that. Must re-read the book. :P

    I think I'm gonna avoid Crave for now. It doesn't sound particularly appealing to me. Damn those cliffies! Will they ever end?

  20. Eek! I have read sooooooo many reviews that compare this to Twilight/ the obsessive romance. I mean, Twilight was like so 2008, right? ;) I think I will pass on this one.

  21. This book sounds interesting- but I wasn't a huge Twilight fan, so this may not be the book for me.

    I did really like that your review was very honest and upfront.

    I found you through Book Blogs and signed up to follow you. When you have a chance- please stop by and follow the blog for my middle grade novel that I am hoping to get published. http://thesecretdmsfilesoffairdaymorrow.blogspot.com/

    Take care-
    Jess- although I may show up as Fairday, the main character from my novel. I can't figure out why that happens and I can't fix it. :)
