Rogue Oracle is the second book in the Delphic Oracle series. Yep, I've started another series somewhere else besides the beginning. You do not need to read the first book to be totally absorbed into this story. This book can stand alone. It is also a fun UF that will keep you on the edge of your seat in a psychological and horror filled way. There is a bit of romance but it is more a part of the background giving the story momentum to move forward. It is not a PNR, so if you are looking for a little more romance you might be disappointed. Even so, I felt that Harry, her intended, was a great match for her and you will root for them from the start.

As a side note, I found that there was a bit of philosophy thrown in this book. You are dealing with oracles, tarot cards, psychic ability and often the idea of free will vs. preordained paths are skirted around. There is a small part in this book that discusses it and the view is more on things being fatalistic. Now for those of you snoozing, don't worry, it was only a very small part in the book and I tend to leap at philosophical discussions like this because I find them interesting. I was just happy that the author did in fact chose a side for the characters. Made them more real to me.

I give this book 4 stars. Although I would start with book 1, Dark Oracle, you don't need to if this book finds it's way into your hands. I also recommend it to people who enjoy UF.

This is book 4 of the Maker's Song series. As some have stated *coughMissiecough* think I'm insane for starting series in the middle. Especially this series *coughPam/Spazcough*. Sometimes, I admit... I am. :) Not all series can be started anywhere but many can so I often throw caution to the wind when I get the chance to read a series I've been wanting to get into for a bit. This series should be started from the beginning. There is just an overload of information that I have no doubt would flow much easier when totally acquainted with these characters and the world they inhabit. I will say this... even though I was lost at times the writing did have me captivated and I want to know more. Oh yes... Ms. Phoenix has me interested and captivated. I will be reading the first three books in this series and then come back to this book.

I will give this book 4 stars. Even though it isn't a stand alone in my opinion, I feel that the writing, characters and the world do deserve big acknowledgement. Oh, and I do warn you... the ending is a cliffhanger.

This is actually the 7th book in the Daughters of the Glen series. I had not read the other 6, and although I had heard of Melissa Mayhue (great first name, btw) I had not read a book of hers. It was not necessary to have read the others in this series to enjoy this book. You could jump right in because it is a book that stands alone. You do get a hint that there were back stories to the other ladies of one of the keeps, but it still did not distract from the enjoyment of this story.

I'd have to say honestly that I didn't quite care for Leah at the beginning. I thought her to be a bit spoiled and selfish. Even though it was stated that she went through something horrific in her past to explain her hesitation, but I didn't connect to that until the story progressed. Then, I did find myself liking her especially at the end when she found her courage and finally stood up to people who where trying to control her destiny. In some ways I also felt the same about Andrew. I did like him from the start, but at other times his excuses for lying really ticked me off. However, when he realized what a jerk he had been, it was quite easy to forgive the rogue. Mainly considering he really wasn't a rouge at all.

I give this book 4 stars. It was a delightful PNR. If you just want something light with a good HEA, then I'd say this book is for you. It is predictable, but sometimes that is the charm of a light romance. I'm curious about Ellie (one of the sister's in law from the future) and I think I might seek out her book to read it. She talks to animals, so I'm curious (...although I'm not sure I'd want to know what my dogs want to tell me. I understand too much as it is!). :D

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper

 Let me just say it, if there was a Grundy Alaska and naked werewolves like Cooper around... I'm moving! However, I don't have Mo's magic touch in cooking to get a whole town to take me in. *sigh* I loved this PNR and laughed quite frequently while reading it. Mo is a great character and I loved her sense of humor. Loved the way she quipped with the other characters in this book. No matter the situation, she was able to find some sort of humor within it. Oh, if I had her mouth... well, I'd be in worse trouble that I usually get in, but I'd enjoy it more. ;) She also had great names for, *ahem* well things that she found interesting. I loved her "name" for a certain body part of Cooper. I laughed every time I read it. I won't divulge what that name was specifically *evil laugh* but I need to say even though I laughed it was a compliment... ;D

Cooper and Mo's relationship was anything but easy as it usually is in a good PNR. In fact they bickered and tried to out-snark each other in the beginning. For example, he had come to see her after shifting back into human form (so no clothes *waggles eyebrows*), they argue, but Mo has the last word... and I loved it:

...I could see that he was about to make one of his patented oh-so-clever parting remarks, so I beat him to the punch.
"You're still naked!" I called smiling nastily. "It's cold outside. Expect shrinkage."

 Ah yes... the sound of lovebirds. ;) There were of course moments that made you love Cooper and not just laugh or roll your eyes... like his concern for everyone be it were or human.

I give this humorous PNR book 5 stars. I so recommend this book and I know I'll be reading it again in the future. This book was just published on the 22! :) Go forth and read!

Oh, and since this is book boyfriend day... I will nominate Cooper as my book boyfriend today. He could be an ass, but he was a tormented and sweet ass. Oh, and apparently he did have a sweet... oh never mind. ;)

 Let me just say it. This book is a roller coaster ride. It's a thriller mystery and it is written very well. As soon as one part of a mystery is solved, you find yourself a part of another. It is a never ending ride as well as a compelling read. The main characters are likable and even though they are thieves, they only do "moral" thieving. Just this topic alone can make for interesting discussion, but it was in here only so you can like the heroes and heroine, Michael and KC, in the story. I will say, however, I did not always like the relationship between those two. At times, their distrust and bickering got tiring, but it also makes sense as if they were to trust each other too quickly. I feel that could have been worse. This book also has a changing POV, and it works in this book. You get a feel for all the major players in this running mystery.

I can see some might compare it to another book *coughDavinciCodecough* because there is a priest and it deals a bit with religious myths, but it is a book that stands on on it's own. And on top of that, it is well researched. ;) In fact those parts in the book that deal with religious undertones are only there to give the mystery more presence and it does not preach in any way. It does not step on the toes of any religion mentioned in the book.

I give this book 4 1/2 stars. If you like thrillers, I do believe you will like this one. The hardback version of this book has been out since Aug, 2010 and now it is being produced in mass market format starting today!

This smart, slick, and alluring detective novel that will tease you, thrill you, and suck you in.

 This is a humor, mystery, YA, and a bit of film noir thrown in for good measure. I will admit that when I first started reading the book the language took me a minute to get used to hearing in my head. It is a mixture of the film noir type of heavy language with a bit of made up YA slang. However, once you get past the heavy language, the mystery unfolds. It is a fun mystery even though it involves the death of someone so young. You don't get too involved with Wesley Payne until the end so you can see him as Dalton sees him, more independent from emotion so it becomes about the case.

The case unfolds slowly building up to a pinacle where not many things fall into place. Suddenly, you start learning more about Dalton and how he solves his cases. With those clues more parts fall into place and by the ends twists and turns you are left with one fun YA mystery. I won't tell you more than that because reading this book and finding those twists are part of the fun.

I give this book 3 1/2 stars. It isn't for everyone and I can see that some people might have trouble with the heavy language, but if you can get used to it, you can see the humor within and a glimpse at the author's humorous homage to film noir.

Honestly, I didn't quite know what to think when I received this book. I thought it was going to be some campy take on a contemporary paranormal romance. Not quite. Actually, there is Jane. Jane is a witch, but doesn't know it. Her family decided it would be safer and give her a chance at a normal childhood. Unfortunately, that didn't happen anyway. Her parents died in a car crash and left her in the care of her eccentric grandmother who saw danger in every crack and shadow that lurked. So after living a sheltered and bored life, Jane moved to Paris as soon as she was old enough. When Jane meets Malcolm, it seems as though her world opens up in new ways not thought possible. As she leaves the familiarity of France, she faces a new life in NY and life with the whole family under one roof. She finds that life with Gran was a lot less suffocating than life under the roof with the Dorans. 

That pretty much is the basic premise. After this I won't tell you as I would want it to be a surprise as it was to me. Jane grows emotionally and dangers reveal themselves slowly. With Jane you also wonder whom you can trust and how much everyone knows. You also get a glimpse as to how powerful Jane could prove to be as a witch. However there is the ending. It's not exactly a cliffhanger but it seems to abruptly stop before throwing you off the cliff. I was left scratching my head wondering where the rest of the chapter had gone. I do understand it was a way of leaving things for the next book. *sigh* So, I give this book a high 3 1/2 stars. It's a surprisingly compelling read. I recommend it for people who enjoy an adult contemporary type of paranormal read.

Graham Parke Guest Author Post

I almost met James Cameron today!

      Just to be clear, it wasn't that the Avatar 3D director and I just missed each other, it was just that it was almost him, but slightly, just slightly mind you, someone else. I hate when that happens. You get so close, then, nothing.


      But this incident started me thinking. This kind of thing has been happening to me a lot lately. And not only with celebrities. Just the other day, I almost ran into Garry, a friend of mine. From a distance, at an angle, it looked exactly like him. A dead-ringer. Could have fooled his own mother. It wasn't until I came closer, and he turned his head a few degrees to the left, that he revealed himself to be just a little bit someone else. The thing was, when I walked passed him, he gave me a long, thoughtful look. He looked me over, then shook his head and turned away. But I knew what it meant. I knew exactly what he was thinking. He had almost recognized me back!


      Now, almost-Garry almost recognizing me back made the whole situation much more complicated. My mind went haywire, trying to understand this, trying to figure out the underlying meaning. Was it possible for someone who was almost Garry but not quite, to recognize me but only slightly? Was it? And, if so, what was I to him exactly? Was I someone who looked like someone he knew? It was hard to say, but it was unlikely. All I knew for a fact was that I was someone who was known by someone he looked like, but who wasn't him. And, in fact, to be fair, he probably didn't even realize that he was almost Garry but not quite. 


      Are you still following me?


      Probably not. Probably your brain isn't defective to the point of reasoning this way. Good for you. You're better off for it. So, let's back-track a little. Let's just assume that the easiest explanation is the correct one. It usually is. And if it isn't, it should be. Really. Life is hard enough already.


      So, I almost recognized Garry, and almost-Garry almost recognized me (that look was unmistakable).  This must mean that there is another Graham-and-Gary combo out there. This almost-Gary actually knows an almost-Graham. And this idea has big implications. As you know, and understand inherently in the core of your being, the universe is nothing if not a little fractally-inclined. Recursion-mad. If there are two sets, there must be more. There are probably thousands. Thousands of Graham-and-Gary combos. And this, of course, is upsetting. Because the first question that comes to my mind is, what if some of them are better at being a Graham and Gary combo? In fact; what if most of them are better? What if my friend Gary and I are in fact the worst of the bunch?


      So, to summarize, I did ask almost-James Cameron for his autograph. Of course I did. I'm no fool. So, if you're interested in almost-autographs, check out my store on eBay. You won't be disappointed!

As you can tell by my book boyfriend... Aiden the Fierce captured my interest. Declan the Magistar however, did not. Declan is Aiden reincarnated but he is very different from Aiden. In fact, I'd say I hated the guy. He was cruel, deceptive, pitiful, angry, and hateful. Yet Regin still felt a pull to him. Even she was surprised at how much she still felt for him after meeting this incarnation. Regin, while the captive of Declan and the Order bent on destroying all immortals in the Lore, becomes torn between wanting Declan to remember who she is to save everyone and not wanting him to remember which leads to his doom. However, within the facility Regin witnesses and experiences horrors even she couldn't have thought of and decides that Declan should be doomed or actually destroyed. Ah, but we all know this is a paranormal romance so how can these two come back together? Is it possible?

Well, you know by now that I'm not going to answer the question of how for you. However, I admit I was shocked that Declan could recapture my heart let alone Regin's. Regin finds that things that were missing in Aiden were not missing in Declan. I even ended up liking Declan better than Aiden! In fact this whole story, in the end, became a sort of beauty and the beast tale.  Probably one of my favorite tales of all time. So, I give this book 5 stars! I have not read books in this series before this one and it isn't necessary to enjoy this book. However, I will remedy this as I need to read the other 10 books before this one. Ms. Kresley Cole has a new fan in me! Seriously, if you haven't read one of her books, do pick up this one.

This week my book boyfriend is a berserker named Aiden the Fierce. You are introduced to him at the beginning of the book. He is an alpha male, leader of very loyal berserker warriors, and totally in love with Reginleit, a Valkyrie. Even though he is too possessive and protective at times, he respects Regin. Not only her beauty, but who she is within. He loves her honesty, her fierceness and trusts her implicitly. Even though he is protective, he only awaits until Regin is fully immortal before he will allow her onto the field to fight along side him. He refuses to risk her life in any way.

So... a viking warrior. Blonde. Rugged. Hm... so who could I pick? Well, duh... one viking we all know as Eric the vampire in the True Blood Series would work as Aiden as well! So, therefore, I pick Alexander Skarsgard as Aiden.

I know how many have fought over him as Eric, so this week, I've decided to just lay down a tarp instead of handing out bibs. I might have to do it from now on. I swear I had no bibs after the first hour when I posted the first one of these! *tsk tsk* Don't you know they are all mine? ;)

So, would you go on a Viking rampage with him?

Hello, readers! I'm pleased as punch to guest post today on Books and Things. I thought about what to write, and it seemed appropriate to hit on the idea of dealing with romance and love as a modern girl, since you know what Monday is. I do wonder... how do you feel about the controversial V holiday? Do you think it's commercial and ridiculous? Is it infuriating to you, or do you look forward to the tradition?

I write paranormal romance, so I tend to be a passionate, idealistic person when it comes to love. I can understand both sides of the Valentines Day argument. In fact, this year I fall into the single women's club for the first time in a while. Perhaps I have a right to feel a bit jaded, but, I still get all shmoopy over Jane Austen novels and You've Got Mail and songs like Say Yes by Snow Patrol.

Can modern women survive with a romantic soul? Can we sigh over the passionate strains of love without losing ourselves? I think so, but it's a hard balance. I was raised in a very traditional female setting where women obsessed over how they looked and planned their lives according to what kind of man they'd attract. It wasn't even so much about falling in love as it was about the supposed validation of being wanted. It's an easy trap to fall into, believing that romance equals the end of your individuality.

As I get older, I notice the evolution of female friends and the way we seem to come into our own after thirty. Hopefully, if you didn't have one already, you develop a backbone when it comes to love, when it comes to your expectations from a partner and your sense of inner strength. It's so important, you know, understanding your own dreams and holding onto them so that when love comes along and sweeps you off your feet, you can fly instead of falling down.

My novels tell the story of strong women from different experiences and backgrounds. One is bold and impetuous and the other is timid and struggling, but they both have to find their way solo before embracing love fully. There may be people there to help, but in the end, happiness and purpose is up to them... it's an individual journey.

So, romantics out there, I hope you have your strength and your soul mate. You deserve both. And for those who observe it, I'm sending you virtual Valentine chocolate!
